    Gathering pieces for install

So I am at this point now... On 1.1 hard wired, cameras not isolated from home network at large. If I go WIFI from home network, BI box, POE and Cams could be on separate network, .2.1 Or am I making this too hard on myself?

Equipment I have so far: Current Network Configuration: ISP -> Xfinity Gateway Cable Modem/router (Wired, Wireless, Telephony) I think it can be bridged. Currently 10.0.0.1 Has MoCA enabled, not sure I need that, don't use it. Has no VPN options, but states does VPN Pass through. I run wired...

    Gathering pieces for install

OK. Thanks for the answer and additional info. I guess the same admonitions also apply to ANY cable installed, be it CMX, CMR or CMP. I guess my main concern is that in the WIKI - IP Camera Installation Tools & Accessories: The outdoor link goes to a CMX rated cable, and the indoor link...

    Gathering pieces for install

I found some 24ga solid copper Cat 5e CMX rated Interior/exterior bulk cable at the Home Depot. It is biege, almost the exact color of my house paint. Is there a reason to use CMR or CMP vs this CMX in my installation at my private residence? I plan to go on walls, in walls, on an exterior...

I am just new to this, but does buy you direct access to each camera to make changes? Or is there just no point in it... if you had only just used a PoE Switch?

I can put the wedge camera on the garage wall where CCTV marked PINK or on the casing above the door bell button where CCTV marked green. It will fit in either place. I started a continuation for this thread in "Camera Installation Questions" Gathering pieces for install Is there a short...

    Gathering pieces for install

I am moving from my introduction first post. It was getting a little long and in depth for an intro. ( Need to cover Drive, Front door. No equipment yet. ) Trying to get my 8 port PoE Switch before Cameras arrive. I looked through the excellent spread sheet in the Cliff Notes. Only problem is...

Need to cover Drive, Front door. No equipment yet.

See above about moving the light a bit. Looney2ns already convinced me to put in a cam at front door at door bell level. Thank you for adding this in. I think I need to get a starter system up to play with a few cams, and then add as needed once all is working. Knowing very little would...

Thank you again. My wife suggested the exact positions you marked. The view would be similar to the videos at bottom of dense persons guide. I was thinking I might be able to move the light to the left a foot, and use the current light's box for the camera. I am getting ready to order. The...

Thanks for reply. Very well thought out suggestions. The trash / recycling / Organic waste collection cans were mandated by city. It is believed that the car checkers often forage for aluminum cans in the recycle bins and also check the cars for unlocked entry. I found wadded up aluminum foil...

Trying to get through setup - DNS error message

Sure. I am not totally sure where you are setting up the DNS, buy in most HOME networks, 192.168.1.1 refers to your network's router. So if an application asks for your Domain Name Server address, you can use 192.168.1.1 and router will fetch the IP address.... IF the router resides on that...

Trying to get through setup - DNS error message

Those are Google DNS servers.... In the DNS servers field, enter the Google Public DNS IP addresses, separated by a comma: For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4. Your ISP default DNS servers may have problems with either the local IP addy or the port number?

Addendum After more looking, the Z has a slightly less fish eye appearance than the ZE, due to slightly lower field of view. This makes the whole ZE image, and especially the portions of the image near the peripheries somewhat distorted, and may appear blurry. I wonder if this is what made...

I looked at the comparisons, and I am convinced. Now the choice is between the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE and the IPC-HDW5231R-Z. Advice appreciated. I mocked up both on IPVM Camera Calculator V3 and did not see a lot of difference, and the list price is identical. Not sure what @EMPIRETECANDY can do...

I did watch the "Carelessness cost me" video. Also, the comparison between the 2MP Starlight and the 8MP IPC-HDW5830R-Z. Author seemed to think the 8mp cam deteriorated in low light, but only to just slightly less than the starlight 2MP? Also, I would have to mount on the vertical surface...

Hi, I am new here so be gentle. I have done a lot of reading of posts, and camera comparisons, so now time to ask for advice. I have a front drive which is a frequent target of car checkers. Our recycling cans are rummaged through by the car checkers as well. I have two tier roofing overhang...
