    Xeon vs i7 Haswell

OK - mine is a Dell T5500 with [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon X5650. For video it has Nvidia Quadro 4000 (2048 MB). Any thoughts on how it would run Blue Iris?

    Xeon vs i7 Haswell

As best I can tell, none of the Xeon processors support Quick Sync.

is this cheap no-brand poe switch interesting?

Q2U, I am looking at that switch now and noticed that the 24 POE ports are 10/100 and not 10/100/1000. Can a POE camera use the gigabit aspect or is the 10/100 on the POE ports irrelevant? Thanks.

    Xeon vs i7 Haswell

Hello all, I have read numerous times about the recommendation to go to an i7 chip for Blue Iris. Any thoughts on how the Xeon chips would compare? They have a larger L3 cache, they support ECC RAM and they are generally chips used in servers vs an i7 which is generally a workstation chip...

Any opinions on the Q-SEE QT5816-16V6-2

Very good suggestion. Do you have a recommended balun to use? A search has found a number of options, but it's not clear what makes one good. This one has good reviews, but has a very small number of them.

Any opinions on the Q-SEE QT5816-16V6-2

Would a BNC extension cable like this work OK? What is the longest I could reasonably extend the cable? Thanks a lot.

Any opinions on the Q-SEE QT5816-16V6-2

Right now it is on sale for $600 and it seems like a really good deal. The full description is "HeritageHD Series 16-Channel 960H 2TB Video Surveillance System with (16) 900TVL Cameras and 100 ft. Night Vision". I know this isn't IP or even digital, but it gets me into the mix for a lot less...

Help with Sound on Hikvision DS-2CD2732F-I(S) camera

Couldn't you just have taken another POE slot on your router and used something like this to provide it power? That way you never need to go back and change batteries.

Help with Sound on Hikvision DS-2CD2732F-I(S) camera

mrslother, Thanks for this post. Quite useful. Couple of questions: 1) Where did you get the RCA connector? The best I could is here, but I still like yours better. 2) How did you provide it power at your installation site? Did you have to run electricity so you could plug in the 12 volt...

    Hik Pin

Maybe I am missing something, but 4mm lens appears to be the default with a 2.8mm option, but I don't see anywhere to specify the option: I have seen a number of cut/paste type errors. I would assume this is another example of that and that 2.8mm lens is not available.

Wiring question for Hikvision Audio and Alarm functions

Hello all, I tracked this picture down from Amazon and it shows what I think are the connectors for the audio and the alarm functions of the camera. Can someone please help me understand what type of cabling I need to use to make use of these functions and whether or not their use affects my...

    Understanding Hikvision Product Numbers

Hello all, Let's take two products: Hikvision 2CD2132-I Hikvision 2CD2132F-IWS Their product numbers have 3 differences: 1) F 2) W 3) S It appears that they are identical except for three things: 1) Two way Audio 2) Two way Alarm 3) SD Card Slot Can I assume that each letter corresponds to...

Review - TOP-201 Super Mini 720P HD IP-Cam (The Cheapest IP Cam So Far !!)

Hello all, I am still in the investigation stage of using these cameras with BI. I have had them running for about 6 days in BI and twice they have given me the above error. Last time it happened, I had to reboot the camera to get it back up and running. I really haven't changed many BI...

What camera will most effectively allow me to capture license plates on cars at night

Re: What camera will most effectively allow me to capture license plates on cars at n Yeah - I've thought about running some cabling to the end of the driveway to get the back side of the cars as they enter, but it crosses multiple people's properties and isn't worth the trouble. - - -...

What camera will most effectively allow me to capture license plates on cars at night

Re: What camera will most effectively allow me to capture license plates on cars at n OK - Good to know. So does this mean I would need to install 2 Hikvision DS-2CD2332 and configure one specially for reading license plates? Or does the second camera need to be a particular one?

What camera will most effectively allow me to capture license plates on cars at night

I have a long shared driveway and my house has a straight on view of it. I would love to be able to capture license plates on approaching cars at night. I expect I will put a few Hikvision DS-2CD2332 cameras around the house. If I use one of them to track the shared driveway, from how far...

Help me plan a security camera configuration for the outside of my house please.

I am really confused now. I did a search at NewEgg for "DS-2CD2332" and got seemingly 10 versions of the same camera. They are all within $4-$5 of each other. Are they all the same camera just sold by different vendors (ala Amazon) or are there slight variations of the same cameras with...

Recommend to me a good POE+ Switch

Wow this is exactly what I am looking for. It has an extra uplink port, all other 8 ports are POE and it has a 124 W budget so there should be plently of power for all 8 POE ports to be used at the same time.

Recommend to me a good POE+ Switch

Once again perfect advice. I already know that about the top-201 and was planning on wiring them using this adapter so I could leverage POE. I have been looking at the 5 port POE switches without POE+ and this thought has very much crossed my mind. I doubt that I will get a PTZ camera, but...

    Add IR led possible ?

Trying to understand this better. Do you mean that unless a camera has an IR cut filter, you can't use an external illuminator with it? What exactly does an IR Cut filter do to this camera to allow you to use an external illuminator? As for an external illuminator, how is it generally used in...

Recommend to me a good POE+ Switch

Fenderman, First off - thanks for taking the time to answer. I am still working out the details of the number and types of cameras. For a noobie, it is very hard to answer the questions like how many cameras, what resolution, how many megapixels, whether to store 24x7x365 or only based on...

Recommend to me a good POE+ Switch

I am thinking of something like this, but want to make sure I am not missing something. I like that each port has 30W so that I can plug any POE camera (including PTZ) into it and guarantee that it has enough power. There are two things I don't like: 1) I have to waste one of the 8 ports to...
