    What about Stunnel? Is it ok to use that? I don't have access to my router - IPS provides an app to see what devices are connected but I don't seem to be able to do much.

    Thinking about this further- I have a Smart things hub and a Carrier thermostat that I access remotely without using VPN. How insecure is this? If I put VPN on my router would these still be accessible?

    MikeA, so if I don't rely on the pc firewall then I guess I am relying on the router right? In that case, if I put the camera behind the router then does that protect it? Still trying to understand why I need a VPN if I don't need one for my pc.

    I'm vurrently planning my system. Have cat5e run to the future doorbell location (also have the standard doorbell wiring). Plan to use BlueIris and will have 4-5 Dahua PoE cameras on the system. Does anyone have a video doorbell recommendation for this set up? Thanks

    If I got a Dahua or Hikvision NVR and later decided I wanted to go to Blue Iris, would I be able to use the NVR as a POE switch? Or would I need to get rid of the NVR and get a new switch?
