    Lightning strike issue

What @Rakin wrote. I'd pull the cover over the breakers and examine the distribution panel, as well. (But that's not something anybody who doesn't know what they're doing in distribution panels should be doing. See Rakin's caution: Re: Electrocution.)

    Lightning strike issue

All that cable/wire--Ethernet cables, speaker wires, CATV cable, phone wiring, house wiring, etc.--are essentially antennae. Lightning produces strong localized EMP. Those antennae pick it up, just like a radio or TV antenna picks up broadcast signals, and brings it back to the...

Video removed - FedEx drives over neighbor's dog, no brakes, doesn't stop

There's no "piling on," @erkme73. I made a point. It was in error. @Walrus corrected me. I acknowledged the correction and amended my original comments.

IANAL, but I think you just stated, in public, that you're considering committing extortion blackmail. Perhaps even conspiracy to commit extortion blackmail. I suspect that was what Walrus' "Wow, just wow" was all about.

Email Bug fixed Firmware for IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea_Eng_PN_Stream3_V2.800.0000008.0.R.190619.zip

Sorry if this has been asked & answered, before, but does Dahua post release notes for new releases? Perhaps indicating what's new in a new firmware release?

Problem with order from Andy (Empiretecandy) and need advice

If anybody had the slightest doubt about doing business with @EMPIRETECANDY, this should dispel it. That is some top-notch customer service, that is! Andy is, indeed, The Man I suspect that, unless it magically shows up in USPS' system, somewhere, that's $1,500 lost to Andy :(. My guess is...

My UPS Caught Fire Last Night

Allow me to do you the favour of adding to your angst, then :). Every electronic device you have is subject to busting into flames at any time. Particularly anything with NiCad, NiMH or LiIon batteries in them. Electronic components fail. It's a fact of life. Sometimes when they fail they...

My UPS Caught Fire Last Night

I had that happen, once, with an APC SmartUPS 1400. I'd just put new batteries in it and swapped the one that'd been in service for the re-batteried one. Pulled the plug to do a runtime test. Got no further than the end of the equipment rack when I heard a *POP* from behind me. Turned and...

Warning about tool shipped with Dahua cams!

Good catch, @Kitsap! I just examined the four wrenches that came with my Dahua cameras. Interestingly: The three that came with the 5231s are all hollow. The one that came with the 4231F-AS is a smaller wrench, but for a larger Torx head, and is solid. I'm going to figure out what Torx head...

Automotive exhaust? Those cameras appear to be in a fairly high-traffic area, and fairly close.

How to ignore raindrops streaking down the image?

That's a very good point, @archedraft. I hadn't thought of that. He didn't say what kind of camera, but, if it's a bullet a hood shouldn't be difficult to fabricate out of some thin sheet steel or aluminum. A turret or dome or other design might be trickier.

How to ignore raindrops streaking down the image?

Probably doesn't need to be even that far away. I suspect mainly keeping the rain off the lens will be sufficient. I have one of my three outdoor cameras located further toward the edge of the soffit because there's a coach lamp w/in about two feet of it. I wanted that well behind the lens so...

    IR issue

Then ISTM it might be a configuration issue? If you can't find it, I'd try a factory reset, then configure it only so far as you need to to get it visible on your network (i.e.: Just the network config), and see what happens.

Ring alarm system still considered a reliable solution?

I have a Honeywell panel with an EyezOn EnvisaLink EnvisaLink 4 IP module. With the EnvisaLink 4 on a Honeywell or DSC panel monitoring is optional, because you can do it...
