Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

Another good thing about a NAS is that you can set it up for redundancy in case a drive dies. It is a higher initial cost, but it may save you down the line. You can also use it for other things too. Another way to get that redundancy is using the eSATA idea with 2 drives in the safe, and set...

Mounting a WD HDD in Hikvision7806NI-E2/P Screws too long -anyone else had this?

^That's probably it. I didn't even know you could get retail boxed drives. Then again I didn't feel the need to pay twice the price for same thing just in a retail box (especially if I bought it from a big retail store). Although when I bought quite a few of em, they came in a big brown box...

    Help - new install issues

Have you tried swapping ports? Try this. Hook up that non 802.3af compliant injector into the 4MP camera and into the router. Go into the camera and manually set an IP, set that same IP for the Camera setting in the NVR set on manual and see if the NVR will see it there.

    Help - new install issues

Logic doesn't apply to Hikvision products. Cheap ethernet cables I stay way from, they cause way too many headaches, and can even cause bottlenecks because of the lost packets pooling up all over the cable. I just spend a couple bucks more on 'real' CAT6 cables which have been tested on a...

Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

In terms on will the external HDD provide sufficient speed for this, it should be plenty even on USB 2.0 (in theory) especially for only 3 cameras. Make sure you use good quality USB 3.0 cables and etc. However, I don't have any personal experience with Blue Iris. If you can't do that rig up...

Mounting a WD HDD in Hikvision7806NI-E2/P Screws too long -anyone else had this?

^That would make sense. The 6TB has more platters inside therefore less gap between the mounting point and the platter itself. Time to whip the grinder out. Intetesting someone menyioned WD includes screws with their HDDs I've probably bought 60 of em by now and never got any. Maybe my...

    Hikvision Going Offline

Wired would be the way to go. If you have to terminate the cables youself make sure you use the right connectors and follow either the A OR B standard for both sides and use a decent crimper. Or just buy premade cables. However, not the cheapest cables you can find. Genereally IMO they've...

Best practice when setting up NVR

You can't manage it via browser in that method without a few 'mods' anyways. If the 7100 series had virtual host u'd be fine. However it doesnt.

So where did the other end on the POE injecto go? Into the NVRs POE ports? Is it a proper 802.3af injector or a dumb injector?

Mounting a WD HDD in Hikvision7806NI-E2/P Screws too long -anyone else had this?

If you're feeling lazy you can always 'borrow' some from your pc. I'm sure it won't mind.

Mounting a WD HDD in Hikvision7806NI-E2/P Screws too long -anyone else had this?

If they gave you wrong screws just pop by any computer shop, they should be able to spare a few for nothing. There should be about 5mm of thread. Theres only about 3 types of screws used in computers, a coarse thread, fine thread, and the big ones for fans.

Fixed Position IP Camera for Sports

There is a lens calculator in HikTools (you can download it from Hikvision). However, keep in mind it is specific for Hikvision cameras but can give you an idea for other cameras. If this can be done with say a bullet camera or a dome you'd be looking at say US$85 - 95 for just the camera...

The pictures are very small, I can't see anything useful. Are you sure you used the right screws?

Fixed Position IP Camera for Sports

There was a guide somewhere that showed you what kind of FOV (in degrees) you would get with certain lenses. However, it is more of a guide as different sensor sizes affects the FOV. I'll try and dig it up. What is your budget anyways?

DS-2CD3132-I No Sub Stream Option on DS-7104N-SN/P NVR?

I would put upgrading the firmware the LAST, thing to do. All the other options are not as risky as upgrading the firmware. There is more to lose if you upgrade the firmware for the hell of it before exploring other options. Even if you have other issues, you can address them together with the...

    Help - new install issues

You wouldn't be able to try a 3MP camera in place of the 4MP one would you? A bit of swapping for testing purposes, just to you know rule out any further wiring or connector issues. Try re-seating the connctors, making sure there is no dust, dirt, pieces of plastic inside the connector. Cheap...

DS-2CD3132-I No Sub Stream Option on DS-7104N-SN/P NVR?

Hikvision strikes again. Glad to hear you got it sorted. Sometimes even a reset can be tricky, it could have gone back to it's roots and started speaking Chinese.

DS-2CD3132-I No Sub Stream Option on DS-7104N-SN/P NVR?

Don't give up your hopes just yet. There are other more knowledgeable people on here that may be able to assist. You could try power cycling it again, maybe with a longer downtime.

DS-2CD3132-I No Sub Stream Option on DS-7104N-SN/P NVR?

Unless, the Hikvision ghosts kick in and it starts working again. There's this phenomenon that happens with Hikvision stuff, it does things you can't explain.

DS-2CD3132-I No Sub Stream Option on DS-7104N-SN/P NVR?

Doesn't sound promising without an external source of power for the camera (whatever you do, don't plug in a unregulated wall adapter thing), or getting access to it via a computer.
