    VPN Primer for Noobs

@GLK. Suggest you google "openvpn connect windows phone client" for some info on getting your windows phone to use openvpn. There is at least one hit with that search, whether or not it is suitable.... you will have to check

    Setting up a subnet

You need another nic for a different subnet. If your NVR is a standalone device, it is providing that extra nic. Your NVR needs to be on same subnet as cameras, or you need to provide routing info to your system. If you are doing this for security, and I presume you are, then maybe you want...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

The recent flaw in WPA2 protocol requires that routers be patched. As of this moment Asus has not released a patch for my RT-N66W but say they are "working on it". I would expect that much older units will never be patched. That may include that very old Cisco router that OP canceled. Just...

Confused about all of these cameras. Which should I buy?

I installed several 2CD2142FWD outside, under the eave. Some of them are difficult to reach. My experience is as others have said, IR glare. Plus I need to dust the cover every few months on several of the camera. If you ever want to access the inside components, like to adjust the lens...

Easiest Way to Secure Camera System

Thanks for that little tidbit. I always choose view list, never have clicked on the circle. In the list you can edit the name of device but you cannot change the displayed icon as you can if your click on the circle. And the icon upload is something I need to look into. Learn something new...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Actually, 255.255.255.0 is the correct subnet mask for 192.168.254.2. And 254 in the 3rd octant means it is a non-routable address, this is a good thing, it means that the address won't advertise itself to the world. Although my nvr is set to 192.168.1.x, all my cameras are 192.168.254.x with...

    Cannot get VCA search working

7716ni-sp/16 NVR & 2142fwd-I dome cameras. I've seen a number of posts here asking about getting VCA working. I've viewed a number of video's on youtube and read several different instructions and bulletins from HikVision. I still cannot get Intrusion Detection to work. Anyone have this...

Hikvision or Dahua NVR - Iphone remote viewing

FWIW, yesterday Dahua published an update to close a vulnerability reported last month. CVE-2017-3223. If you go w/ Dahua make sure you upgrade the firmware if applicable.

With linux I use Pale Moon browser with VLC for live view & configuration. I have not discovered a way to get playback working in linux. If I want to see playback I have to use a VM to run IE.

    Looking for firmware upgrade info

I bought my Hikvision NVR in USA from a reputable dealer. The model is XC-7716NISP Firmware is v3.3.6 bld 151230 Encoding is v1.0 bld 151229 Web is v4.0.1 bld 150722 Plugin v3.0.5.52 Based on the post immediately before mine with lots of useful info and a link to reading serial numbers, my NVR...

    Backdoor found in Hikvision cameras

An example of what I believe to be secure: I have NVR on my network. I can access any of my cameras at NVR or via a web browser that support napi and also via iPad/iPhone using iVMS-4500. I have never signed up with hik-online.com, I don't port forward at my firewall, I have disabled upnp...

How do I install DS-2xx2_5.4.5_170123 security update on my Gray Market camera USA

And how can one determine if 'hacked to English' firmware is being run? My concern is that the camera model number is reported as XC-2142F and not what I see here as DS-2142F. I bought the camera from a US dealer.

As mentioned elsewhere here, that will only work in the very near future, or unless you never update your browser again.

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

I was thinking that perhaps a path of /usr/lib/mozilla referred to 32 bit instead of 64 bit. Regardless, the ln works! Recapping this saga for future readers: Using linux 64 bit FF v52 no longer works due to Mozilla deprecation of npapi. Was able to use suggestion in thread...

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

This sounds promising. The FAQ sez "Pale Moon checks for plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins". Firefox put the plugins in "/usr/lib64/browser-plugins". No wonder (presumably) PM cannot find it!

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

I am running the 64 bit version of PM. About:plugins is empty, so there is no path to anything, thus I don't know the name of the path that is probably not even existing. I've been poking around the PM addon library looking for a 'plugin' to add to PM so that I will recognize that path. I do...

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

Thank you, I did find the path, "/usr/lib64/browser-plugins" which contains 4 plugin's but the problem is getting the plugin file to pale moon. I have not figured out where to put the file so pale moon can see it.

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

I have not been able to install the plugins in pale moon. However the modification of about:config does work on my linux FF v52. I presume this will eventually be a dead end so does anyone know how to get the "vlc web plugin" that I need installed in pale moon? That plugin is libvlcplugin.so.

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

Will that run on the same computer that is running FF greater than or =v52 and at same time? I started looking at that solution but what I read did not give me confidence that it was a good solution.

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

I have Pale Moon up and running but it seems that PM, following the Mozilla project, does not provide a means for loading npapi extensions or add-on's. That said, if I can figure out which flags to toggle in the config then I hope this will solve my problem. I'll search the forum for more info...

Firefox v52 no longer runs vlc plugin, cannot access cameras

Running LInux, using Firefox I was able to use LiveView on cameras with VLC npapi plugin. Latest version of FF (v52) no longer supports that plugin. Any thoughts, other than VM, on how to access cameras? My only other choice is QuickTime, I have never been able to get that working and I...

    Confused about correct firmware file

According to the camera web gui the model number I have XC-2142FWDI. My invoice says I bought a 2142FWD-I-4MP WDR At Hikvision USA site there is no 'XC-2142', but there is 'DS-2142'. The XC/DS prefix confuses me. I downloaded the firmware for DS-2142 but I don't really know if that is correct...

    Backdoor found in Hikvision cameras

I use a different method. I have a pfSense appliance rather than installation on an old pc. I have a Hikvision NVR on my lan and I've assigned the cameras a non-routable IP, 192.168.254.x. My NVR does have a routable IP and is assigned as a gateway to the cameras. This arrangement allows me...
