    The sounds of a homicide

Yeah, the shooting that happened down the road from me was the same situation. The car blasting by afterwards became paramount evidence. You can assist with your street view but not the way the camera is set at the moment. Every frame is motion blur. I'd question if it was doing well even for...

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

It worked for me on an older 4208-8p with old firmware and an older dahua nvr from Nelly years ago. So the common denominator seems be 'old' lol. It would seem likely the newer firmware in current NVR's is the road block. Like I said, I'm super happy the old way is no longer needed. Even then it...

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

Wow. Since you've confirmed this it would seem my method no longer works with newer gear and firmware. I never really tried it since getting my new setup and I certainly appreciate not having to resort to that older method any longer. So disregard my suggestion in this case. If I ever have the...

    Ring Doorbell recalled

LOL! It's pretty obvious which screw is the one to use. If someone 'screws' this up, seriously, you're not all that bright. Or, you're simply an asshole.

The viofo website hangs for me in chrome. Question- does their camera do better with their own SD card or doesn't it matter?

    Ring Doorbell recalled

At the moment I think it has to do with using the wrong faceplate locking screw and if so, it can pierce the battery. If installed correctly, there's no problem. https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050949611

Neighbhors Car Jack Being Stolen around 0640 hrs Today 11/8/2020

I wouldn't be surprised if they scoped it out before hand. How long was the car up on the jack? Might be worth a look back to see if they passed by previously. That had all the makings of them knowing what they wanted already. They pass by to ensure know one is around, they back up and grab it...

Is POE voltage critical on an NVR

^^^ agreed. The only thing you might be able to do is set them to onvif so they show in the nvr channel. But you'll have to be fine with no motion detection, only continuous recording.

A.I. in dahua NVR-4208-8P-4KS2H1 and IPC-T5442T-ZE Which to use? Subject updated

Do you have smart detection enabled per channel in the smart detection menu? Do you have it scheduled properly too? If you're sure you have it set right and everything is enabled, try rebooting the nvr. Sometimes that can help. When you say you cross the lines, do they flash red? If they don't...

A 15 year old caddy? Well, now we know why the jack was stolen. They're probably under that thing every other day. Hopefully the next thing they're under is arrest.

Ring Alarms discounted for Prime Day (2020 Oct 13)

Why didn't I think of the guest network. Will do that asap as well. I also picked up the bridge and mailbox sensor deal too. Shipping next week. My mailbox is just far enough down the driveway to be a bitch to find out the mail hasn't come yet. Hopefully that little doodad saves me a lot of...

Ring Alarms discounted for Prime Day (2020 Oct 13)

Make your ring account password strong, like any other, as well as your wifi password. Ring has mandatory two factor authorization which is secure but a pain with your online account because it times out pretty quickly and you have to login again and again go though two factor which sends a code...

    NVR with Face/people detection

You should have the nvr and cameras be of the same brand. If you choose dahua or hikvision the cameras will need to be the same brand of the nvr you choose and also the cameras and nvr need to be ivs/AI capable. This is the best way for compatibility between nvr and cameras to truly work...

2 hard drives better than 1?

Does it max out at only 4tb regardless? Absolutely install two drives at the most storage it'll take, if you can afford it. The drives don't make the noise. The fans do that.

    IVS false positives

Web interface shows that as well. I really don't care for pss. Exteriors can be difficult to dial in. Best advice I've followed thus far is to think of zones and lines as 3D, as opposed to 2D. And really in the ops scene there I'd recommend multiple trip wire and not intrusion boxes. The...

This is my next dashcam. Ever since I've had a dashcam I've always wanted the rear view as well- arguably as important or more than the front view. That's true for dashcams and the opposite sex as well  VIOFO Dashcam

    IVS false positives

You will get false positives. Maybe less, but you'll get them. You can only dial it so much and you need to be certain you're not missing people and/or cars. Also uncheck 'appears'. Try just crossing. And trips are good fail safes in addition to intrusion but generally I do have better results...

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

I find internet explorer the browser of choice for this. Not edge, but rather internet explorer. Hope you find the issue. Generally speaking I have found it's not a great idea to test things the way you did, swapping out different cameras in the same port of an nvr. Start over. Hook up the new...

Outdoor LED light bulb selection for full color cams ?

Without the lights the camera position is a good one. Knowing you'd have two lights in view, the camera position wasn't the best choice. You could try 40 watt bulbs and see if things improve and remain in color. In general I'd readjust the camera in two ways. One, lower the field of view to...

    Review-OEM Loryta IPC-T5442T-ZE Varifocal 4mp camera (Dahua)

It doesn't have to be. This. And this. These two things alone equal this (please excuse me being bagged out lol). This is with a mere 60watt incandescent bulb and is a Dahua 4mp 2431- not as good a sensor as the camera being discussed here. If this camera can be dialed in, so can a 5442. The...

Got a handful of Dahua 4MP Starlight Turrets with Mics in - $75

On average 9' with most between 8-9'. Bases range from pole mount and round mounts. Frankly I think any camera is vulnerable to tampering. How often do we see cameras actually being tampered with really? Crime looks to be happening pretty matter of factly right in front of cameras without the...

Dahua bug - missing 1 hr recording - DST between 1am and 2am

Now if you're a somewhat on the ball crook you take note of this problem and figure hey, lots of systems may drop an hour of recordings at these times, and add it to their theft 'go time'. So yeah, this should be fixed for sure.

    Capacitor verses battery

I think all dashcam batteries can be replaced. Some, almost none really that I have seen, have a simple connector. Most have to be soldered out and back in and if you suck at soldering it's pretty certain you'll ruin these tiny connections. Plus replacement batteries aren't really cheap...
