    VPN Primer for Noobs

I stumbled on a post on a different forum a few months ago where he stated he was a former member of IPCamtalk. He said he had his reasons but didn't elaborate.

    Electrical Inspection Wall Of Shame

That should work for a little while! Since these custom brake pads are on the rear brakes they won't get quite as hot as the front brakes do! lol

    Neighbors caught stealing!

The way the stone was left so close to the street I could see how that landscape crew might have thought the homeowner was discarding them.

    Funny / Satire

So what's the problem with the new logo? The graphic designer was probably told they want to incorporate a silo and hay bales in the logo and that's what he came up with! lol :p

Is this the same PC that you were posting about having virus/malware issues?

Server Build for Blue Iris + AI — Sanity Check

You are spending a lot of money on this build. Not sure why you would go with such a small hard drive. I have 5 cameras and thought a 4 TB drive would be sufficient, but will be adding a second hard drive soon. With the 4 TB drive I am limited to 12-14 days worth of recordings.

Cable - CAT 5, CAT 6 CAT 7 or CAT 8 Too many to choose for a noob

Keep in mind if you plan on running pre-terminated cable you will need to drill larger holes in walls, top plates, etc..in order for the connector to pass through. It's really not hard to crimp your own cable ends after you practice a few times. I bought a Klein cable tester to check my work...

Cable - CAT 5, CAT 6 CAT 7 or CAT 8 Too many to choose for a noob

I decided to use CAT 6 cable for the cameras since the rest of the house had been prewired with CAT 6 by the home builder. Three NIC jacks and one coax connection was installed in almost every room of the house, but no provisions for security cameras were wired. Go figure.. Monoprice is where I...

    Hall of shame

Where I work all the PC monitors are configured to go to sleep within a few minutes of inactivity. This became very annoying so we got around it by opening up Windows Media Player and creating a playlist using a couple pictures that were already on the PC. Then just click play and Media Player...

Looking for advice of Camera and Software

Yes, that's how I access my Unify network on my iPhone when away. Install the Wifiman app first, then click on the Teleport icon to start the VPN, which is based on Wireguard. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube which goes into detail.

Looking for advice of Camera and Software

I also am using a Unify UDM-SE and a Unify 24 port switch, with Blue Iris running on a separate VLAN. The built-in Teleport VPN works well. It's a great system, but expensive. I already owned the Unify equipment prior to deciding to go with a dedicated Blue Iris server for surveillance. The...

Choosing new hard drive RPM and cache specs

The drives with less cache are a little cheaper as well. I didn't think a surveillance drive which is always writing would benefit from a larger cache, so I was surprised to see so many options for cache size when shopping for a WD Purple.

Choosing new hard drive RPM and cache specs

I am planning on adding a second Western Digital Purple hard drive to my Blue Iris server soon and was curious if a surveillance hard drive would benefit from having a larger cache. I see the WD Purple is offered with multiple cache sizes, 64, 138, 256, 512, etc. Also if there is any benefit to...

Make sure to use the pass through style RJ 45 connectors. It makes it much easier to ensure you have the conductors in the correct order prior to crimping.
