    They do, but you'll need to TFTP it if the camera is currently identifying itself as English as it will reject Chinese firmware. If identifying as Chinese it would accept it in web page. There is only original firmware in Chinese for these cameras - the sellers change them to support English...

    That's a binary configuration export, whereas I know there's a .xml based batch configurator that is editable in a text editor.

    You could try the configurator in Hikvision Tools. I think that uses an .xml config file that can be imported/exported per camera. I doubt it will help though as the things you want would likely be application based and not subject to configuration file parameters (I could be wrong though).

    As you can see on Hikvision (China) website, there are different types of 2xx5 camera that use different firmware. Type "B" for example is 5.3.8 and I don't think it is compatible with 5.3.6 (or the latest 5.4.0 on there). But if you are happy to loose English + multi language (if present)...

    Only do it as a last resort as I doubt you'll be able to get the seller to give you firmware to put it back to multi language Also I kind of doubt it's a firmware problem on the camera unless someone knows different. I use NFS and sometimes CIFS on these 2xx5 without problems though it's true...

    Could try listening with wireshark - camera should show activity within 5 seconds of powering on. Or maybe a different switch just in case of some weird incompatibility? Obviously you know about networks so I assume there's no PC firewall issue. I also assume there's no routing or VLAN...

    Are you sure you're not 2 different hardware platforms mixed up?: - 2xx2 5.2.5 (has mic in & line in) - 2xx5 5.3.6 (only line in) I don't think the 2xx5 hardware supports mic in, only line in. It's not a firmware issue.

    I've used different OSes and browsers etc - all work fine. I think I heard this happens when camera is wrong 2xx5 type (there are 2) and has wrong version of firmware on and a few 100 were sent before Chinese sellers realized. You could use Google Chrome after upgrading to 5.3.8 (not 5.4.0)...

    I have a few with the exact firmware version and build date. Mine are all fine. You could try reset configuration in web page, TFTP firmware 5.3.8/5.4.0 (your camera will be Chinese afterwards) or just return it.

    Yes change the password no problems. Just leave the firmware itself alone though short of TFTP you won't be able to change it anyway even if you tried.

    I reset the config on my Chinese (hacked to English) cameras without problems. Just don't update the firmware/TFTP it.

    Same here - with some cameras maybe £30 difference, but sometimes it might be a camera that is £300 in the UK and £115 on aliexpress. That's a big difference! :) If I was an installer I'd have other concerns like long term support etc to consider though.
