Video Quality and Max Bitrate interplay

The OP tone seemed fine to me. Methinks some do protest too much. Anyway, I can't comment on hikvision cameras specifically but quality is different than bitrate. Size of macro blocks, range of motion estimation, slice usage, how adjacent frames are used, quantization levels, specific...

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

I also find the IR falls off a lot towards the edges, even with 6mm lens fov. The hot center means the shadows at night can be dark so I put a thin strip of frosted mylar between the two LEDs to kill the hot spot. The camera exposure is better and illumination much more even.

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

Maybe yours aren't stock dahua. What firmware you using? Daytime mine look great right out of the box. Nighttime shadows were a bit dark so brought them up a tad. Cameras have great images, just need a bit of light at night compared to the best.

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

It's easy enough to adjust focus. The lens screws in or out to focus. It will be held in place by a screw or glue (or both). But first make sure there isn't something covering the lens (plastic film or something). Or lot of condensation etc. Also if it's out of focus there should be a spot...

IPC-HFW1831E bitrate higher than setting allows

I have two cameras, one still on its original 2.622 firmware and the other upgraded to the latest 2.8 firmware. With default settings on both cameras the 2.622 bit rate varies all over the place, typically showing around 12.5Mbps. This is for a static scene. I don't think it ever got down to...

    New SmartPSS win64

BI has a functional demo and SmartPSS is free so best would be to try them out and decide for yourself since liking one or the other is so use-case and user dependent. I started with SmartPSS and then went to BI. They are a toss-up imo, different ways of doing the same thing. BI has more...

Need help and ideas for tweaking a motion detect situation

Does your Dahua have IVS? I fiddled around with BI motion detection for a while dealing with rain, snow, leaves, headlights, shadows and even neighbors security light going on and off every 10 minutes all night! Switched to IVS intrusion and it worked great. Do make sure regular in camera...

How to bypass video compression in Dahua camera

Since I normally use IVS motion detection I was intrigued by your findings. So I tried this on my 1831E (setup an FTP server and saved to there since it has no SD card). Drastically reducing my video bitrate to 128kbps produced a bad video picture like the one on your left while the IVS...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

So....the licensed version dropped the cpu loading by about 7% across the board (to about 63% with GUI open). Changing "scaling" to Fast (from Bilinear) reduced further down to about 43%. Some investigating indicates base loading for streaming/decoding one camera is about 7% cpu and 9% gpu...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

OK, thanks. Didn't think about the effect of the 4k monitor. Minimizing the GUI drops the loading down to 22% (from 70%). Wow. Does the "limit live preview rate" refer to the limit on each camera stream? Help file doesn't say and I found no posts on the subject. I ask because any value...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

Hi, I'm getting 70% cpu loading with only two 8MP cameras (hfw1831E) running at 20 fps (330mp/s). Seems high but I'm trying the demo version. I've seen the comments on past demo versions about high loading, do we know how v5 demo behaves in this regard? I ask because direct to disc...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Yes, I experimented with joining the two networks, also tunneling between them and thought about VLANs, All possible but in the end decided to just not bother using gDMSS. IMO it's not worth weakening the security given the entire point is to isolate the cameras. RDP/Teamviewer into the PC...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

As I found out when I did it....gDMSS quits working with the dual NIC setup since it can't see the cams directly. FWIW, It doesn't use P2P (although it sounds like it has the option to do so based on above comment). Certainly there is no need to and I have P2P turned off on my cams. That's...

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

Please be more careful in your quoting. Better yet remove my reference from your quote. I have never said there were kickbacks from BI to this site.

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

This type of processing works better on raw data streams which are only available in the camera. Also distributing the intelligence scales better for larger systems (their market). I'm surprised programs like BI make you go to an outside 3rd party subscription service when the basic...
