RDP to Blue Iris over LAN – can it be done securely?

Thanks, I agree that exposing RDP/3389 to the Internet is hazardous. But then it's only "fine" on the LAN, if we assume a secure LAN -- which is hard to be sure of. So, in an environment where you can't be 100% certain, is it "safer" to expose RDP (port 3389) or to expose http service...

RDP to Blue Iris over LAN – can it be done securely?

Agreed. I guess I was thinking that if a LAN gets compromised, then having a device running RDP might make a bad problem worse.

RDP to Blue Iris over LAN – can it be done securely?

Thanks, but there is no need for VPN or tailscale if I am connecting from within my LAN.

RDP to Blue Iris over LAN – can it be done securely?

I want to RDP to my Blue Iris PC, but only within my LAN. RDP opens port 3389 on the “target” PC, and I’ve read that having this port open is not great security practice, because all LAN devices can see this open port, including those that could be malicious/compromised. If understand...

Western Digital Purple Drive "Preventative Wear Levelling" thumping sound

For years, I've had a Blue Iris system running 2 Western Digital Purple Drives (not the newer "Purple Pro"). The drives work perfectly and the noise is very minimal. I built a newer Blue Iris system for a friend, and we added two of the newer WD Purple Pro drives. The "Pro" drives also seem...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Not sure I follow. What do you mean by the above?

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

The cams are on a different subnet than the router/gateway, so how can they see the Internet?

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, in the network example you provided, the cams all hang off the same switch directly attached to the BIPC, so the cameras are are, in effect, "quarantined" there. Whereas in my example, the cams are distributed around the network and not "quarantined" ...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Thanks, but I'm not sure I follow. Can you please be more specific about your concern and how my proposed design introduces the issue?

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Thanks, I've corrected below. So, just to make sure I’ve got it, please take a look at the REVISED network diagram below. Please confirm that: The BI PC can see all BLACK devices AND all RED devices ONLY the BI PC can see the RED devices The RED devices see ONLY the BI PC and each other...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Sorry, I guess I could've made that clearer. In my example, the static IP addresses of the PC and camera are already set to be on the same subnet, and then both are connected to the UNmanaged switch. There's no router or DHCP server present. Can the PC and camera communicate?

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Thanks for the helpful thread. here's a hypothetical, just to make sure I'm following the Dual-NIC implementation properly: Let's say I have a PC , an unmanaged switch, and an IP camera. There is no router or other hardware in this simple example. I configure this simple "network" such that...

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Rhea V2.800.0000016.0.R.200430 Latest new firmware

I updated my 5231R-ZE to v16. The cam seems to be working fine, but I notice that I can no longer use Blue Iris (5.3.2.11) to adjust the varifocal zoom on the camera (which I like to do once in a while as site conditions change). See the screenshot attached. I go to, for example, "Zoom in"...

What router are you guys using?

Thanks, SY. Can you explain this? How does your camera traffic bypass the router?
