Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Well I'm not proud of how awful it looks but I found a bit of old plastic and some rubber edging and used that to seal off the front of the camera in a way that allows the lens to protrude. It's probably not waterproof but this camera is being installed under cover so that won't matter. It's...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

The next lens I purchased just arrived. This one has a larger 'back focal' length and it is indeed compatible with the camera. Here are some framegrabs showing the original lens that came with the HFW3866EP camera compared to the new wide angle lens. Original factory lens for comparison...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

That's very true, I guess it depends on whether they keep the same housing if they have an IR filter or not. It might be cheaper to keep the same distance to the sensor so they can use the same model lens across as many different camera models as possible.

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

I didn't use any documents, I just bought two lenses to try, one didn't fit and the other didn't give a picture. So then I investigated and as I was searching I just happened by chance to find an AliExpress listing for the original lens, which has a very distinctive look to it. That listing...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Sorry, I thought why would you be asking for that when I already explained what it looked like. You can't see anything, it's just colour blotches. It's like the lens is out of focus a million times worse than normal. If you take a photo and resize it to 3x3 pixels then enlarge it back to...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Before and after what? The removal of the plastic bracket? There's barely any difference, the lens has to screw in way further before you can see anything. It's not just blurry, all you can see on the video are just a couple of large colour blobs. After doing more research, it looks like the...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Well the lenses arrived but unfortunately as I suspected it wasn't so simple - they don't work with the camera. Although they are both M12, only one of them screws into the camera, the other one gets a couple of turns in and then won't budge, so it seems there are two variants of M12 with ever...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Very interesting! Thanks for all the info, that helps a lot. Taking the camera apart doesn't worry me as I've already done it a few times to solder on UART connectors so that's all good. I did find that 1.8mm lens you linked to, but in the specs it says "maximum image circle: 7mm" and if I...

    How to enable automatic/MPEG-TS multicast?

Just to follow up on this, after a few months of back and forth with Hikvision support it turns out that their cameras don't actually support true multicast in this manner. It looks like there are some options that may introduce this for some newer models, but it wasn't available on either...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Hi all, I have just purchased a DH-IPC-HFW3866EP-AS-AUS (8MP bullet non-PTZ) with the intention of swapping the lens for a wide angle one. This is mostly because Dahua don't sell a camera (at a reasonable price) with the lens that I want (at least 170 degrees horizontal view, 90+ degrees...

    How to enable automatic/MPEG-TS multicast?

Hi all, I have just bought a couple of Hikvision IP cameras to try out (DS-2CD2T45G0P-I and DS-2CD2H86G2-IZS) however I can't work out how to get multicast set up. I'm after automatic multicast, sometimes called MPEG-TS multicast, where the cameras start sending H.264 data immediately on...

    SSH Dahua

I had a look at that repo but it was very involved. In the end it turned out they're all zip files with the PK signature changed to DH, but the "unzip" utility allowed me to extract them even with the obfuscated signature. Once I had the squashfs files, it turns out 7zip is able to decompress...

    SSH Dahua

So I pulled the dsh binary off a firmware image and disassembled it with Ghidra to take a look at this whole Domain Account thing. Long story short, it uses public key encryption so unless Dahua's private certificate leaks, there's no way to calculate valid check codes. What happens is that...

Anyone have a UART on a recent Dahua camera?

I am trying to get a UART on a Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3666EMP-S-AUS however the output I'm getting seems very different to the other posts here on the forum. I located the four pin UART connector and have figured out which pins are TX (data from device), GND and +3.3V, however when I power up the...

Where to download firmware source code?

You're always obliged to distribute the sources, even if unmodified, as per the licence agreement. You can read the full text if you go into the camera's web interface and click on the links to the legal information. Some companies work around this by just pointing you to the unmodified...
