Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Well I'm not proud of how awful it looks but I found a bit of old plastic and some rubber edging and used that to seal off the front of the camera in a way that allows the lens to protrude. It's probably not waterproof but this camera is being installed under cover so that won't matter. It's...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

The next lens I purchased just arrived. This one has a larger 'back focal' length and it is indeed compatible with the camera. Here are some framegrabs showing the original lens that came with the HFW3866EP camera compared to the new wide angle lens. Original factory lens for comparison...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

That's very true, I guess it depends on whether they keep the same housing if they have an IR filter or not. It might be cheaper to keep the same distance to the sensor so they can use the same model lens across as many different camera models as possible.

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

I didn't use any documents, I just bought two lenses to try, one didn't fit and the other didn't give a picture. So then I investigated and as I was searching I just happened by chance to find an AliExpress listing for the original lens, which has a very distinctive look to it. That listing...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Sorry, I thought why would you be asking for that when I already explained what it looked like. You can't see anything, it's just colour blotches. It's like the lens is out of focus a million times worse than normal. If you take a photo and resize it to 3x3 pixels then enlarge it back to...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Before and after what? The removal of the plastic bracket? There's barely any difference, the lens has to screw in way further before you can see anything. It's not just blurry, all you can see on the video are just a couple of large colour blobs. After doing more research, it looks like the...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Well the lenses arrived but unfortunately as I suspected it wasn't so simple - they don't work with the camera. Although they are both M12, only one of them screws into the camera, the other one gets a couple of turns in and then won't budge, so it seems there are two variants of M12 with ever...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Very interesting! Thanks for all the info, that helps a lot. Taking the camera apart doesn't worry me as I've already done it a few times to solder on UART connectors so that's all good. I did find that 1.8mm lens you linked to, but in the specs it says "maximum image circle: 7mm" and if I...

    How to enable automatic/MPEG-TS multicast?

Just to follow up on this, after a few months of back and forth with Hikvision support it turns out that their cameras don't actually support true multicast in this manner. It looks like there are some options that may introduce this for some newer models, but it wasn't available on either...

Lens swap - what to look for when selecting an aftermarket lens

Hi all, I have just purchased a DH-IPC-HFW3866EP-AS-AUS (8MP bullet non-PTZ) with the intention of swapping the lens for a wide angle one. This is mostly because Dahua don't sell a camera (at a reasonable price) with the lens that I want (at least 170 degrees horizontal view, 90+ degrees...

    How to enable automatic/MPEG-TS multicast?

Hi all, I have just bought a couple of Hikvision IP cameras to try out (DS-2CD2T45G0P-I and DS-2CD2H86G2-IZS) however I can't work out how to get multicast set up. I'm after automatic multicast, sometimes called MPEG-TS multicast, where the cameras start sending H.264 data immediately on...

    SSH Dahua

I had a look at that repo but it was very involved. In the end it turned out they're all zip files with the PK signature changed to DH, but the "unzip" utility allowed me to extract them even with the obfuscated signature. Once I had the squashfs files, it turns out 7zip is able to decompress...

    SSH Dahua

So I pulled the dsh binary off a firmware image and disassembled it with Ghidra to take a look at this whole Domain Account thing. Long story short, it uses public key encryption so unless Dahua's private certificate leaks, there's no way to calculate valid check codes. What happens is that...

Anyone have a UART on a recent Dahua camera?

I am trying to get a UART on a Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3666EMP-S-AUS however the output I'm getting seems very different to the other posts here on the forum. I located the four pin UART connector and have figured out which pins are TX (data from device), GND and +3.3V, however when I power up the...

Where to download firmware source code?

You're always obliged to distribute the sources, even if unmodified, as per the licence agreement. You can read the full text if you go into the camera's web interface and click on the links to the legal information. Some companies work around this by just pointing you to the unmodified...

Where to download firmware source code?

Hi all, Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems most Dahua cameras are running Linux internally. This means that the firmware source code must be made available, as this is a legal licensing requirement for using Linux in a commercial product. However I am not having any luck finding...

    Upding Firware hangs/frozen/failed

These cameras are so old they might still have the backdoors and vulnerabilities in them that will allow you to get access to a Linux console. You can Google for how to do this and try it out. It may not get you any further even getting a shell on the device, but possibly you will see more log...

Tips for adjusting camera video conditions

I wondered the same thing so I did a bit of investigation. Seems "H.264" is main profile, B is baseline, and H is high profile. The short answer is that you are likely to get the best image quality with the High profile, but if some of your devices can't play the video then you will have to...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

Oh I can clearly see AI SSA is heavily processing the image, especially in low light. As people walk through the frame they are just a 20 fps smear. But most of that seems to be down to the high noise reduction as I can get the same effect with manual settings if I put the 3D NR up really...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

I can't adjust most of the settings if AI SSA is on. The screenshot is with it off. It has three modes: In "Day/Night Switch" mode, you only get two image setting profiles (one for Day and one for Night) and in this mode you cannot disable IR/B&W. In order to have colour in low-light...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

I don't think you guys are really reading what I'm writing. You keep telling me I need a fast shutter to get clear photos as if I'm disagreeing with you but I am not. As I have said before, I'm only interested in a high frame rate and smooth motion during the day when there's plenty of light...

No audio in Synology from IPC-HDW2431T-AS-S2

Not sure in that case, you might have to ask on a Synology forum what their supported codecs and sample rates are. 16k is still pretty low.

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

Well just for the record, with the AI SSA mode on, even in NTSC mode set to 30 fps, it drops back to 20 fps at night. Which is fine, now that I know it's only doing that because it has slowed the shutter speed a bit to let more light in. I experimented with the exposure and other settings and...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

Using Firefox, and the working mode didn't make a difference - but disabling AI SSA seems to have done the trick, now I can get to the exposure options

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

Totally agree with your logic, no argument against shutter speed being key, my focus on framerate is because I've never used an IP camera before that lets you adjust the shutter speed directly. They all seem to do it by framerate, so you need a high framerate in order to get a high shutter...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

No argument from me about dropping the FPS for certain use cases like yours, but in my case I have the feed on a monitor I am looking at for most of the day so I like the smoother motion of a high framerate, and during the day with bright light it's perfectly fine. The server I'm using to...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

How do you know the fps doesn't drop when the light level goes low? What method are you using to check the fps? Also you said above you don't use more than 15 fps so how would you notice a framerate reduction if it only happens when you've set the camera above 20 fps? You wouldn't see it...

No audio in Synology from IPC-HDW2431T-AS-S2

Try changing the sampling frequency to 48000. Some modern devices have problems playing low sample rates, whereas most can do 48 kHz. If you don't see 48000 in the list, change the codec. I don't think the G.xxx codecs support this but AAC does and PCM should too. As for codecs, PCM should...

[SOLVED] Can't get over 20 fps from camera?

Well I woke up this morning and - with no changes - noticed the camera was outputting 25 fps. So it looks like when it gets dark it drops back to 20fps to improve low light performance, and as the light level improves it returns to 25 fps. That's a relief, I can live with 20 fps at night to...

[SOLVED] How to enable multicast on Dahua IPC-HDW3

I wondered the same thing about DHII. I have no idea what it could mean. Google only comes up with "Data Highway II" which is an industrial protocol used instead of Ethernet so it can't be that. I know RTP is obviously the Real-Time Protocol, and TS is likely a reference to MPEG-TS (MPEG...
