    LPR Nails wanna-be criminals

It is indeed a HFW5241E-Z12E . No disappointments

    WDR vs SSA

I've played with SSA, I use it for daytime only as it brings out the shadows. Night forget it, way too much noise for the street cam (fixed B5442E-SE , 3.6), and the noise was unpredictable and variable. Could not find a sweet spot that would last all night.

    Hidden in plain sight

Oh that's the easy part, I'm shooting straight down the road with a new B5442E-SE, with a slight ~2° pan to the right (to center with the end of the street)

    LPR Nails wanna-be criminals

My LPR and mailbox cam have been very busy in the last few weeks. Stuff that goes on in the middle of the night that go unnoticed, except for the specific motion signatures that are left behind. Juvies rummaging through unlocked cars, mailbox bandits, and this gang below that were out to steal...

Chainsaw Demo, Sale and Secret Meeting

Left with oxy in his left hand. Weird transaction, scored a chainsaw and mind altering substance. Must have just got paid.

    Sawdust in the Eyes

Washington palm, hate them. Constant high maintenance. Royal palm, tree of tropical choice; self cleaning, you just don't want to be under it when a frond decides to drop,

The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection

You are always spot on!! I've learned so much just by reading/re-reading. I have another thread going under the "Mailbox Upgrade" , but thought I would add this here: I just installed a B5442-SE , 1/1.8, 3.6mm (Due to finite size constraints only) and these petty juvy perps stalking my street...

    Bullet Cam Upgrade Model

Your right, the B5442E is a superior camera. I had discounted it initially as the dimensions are wrong in the description; which would have made it impossible to fit into a 4 x 4 steel column. I was hoping that I could find a 3" round but that fell flat. After another look-see and going back to...

    Bullet Cam Upgrade Model

Hey thanks, The dimensional specs were a bit jacked when I looked previously, but this is actually small! Dahua makes , what looks like a direct fit for what I need, IPC-HFW2249S-S-IL It doesn't appear to be available stateside though. I'll certainly keep the B5442 in mind in case nothing...

    Bullet Cam Upgrade Model

Yes, there are two sodium street lights 60' from the mailbox (on both sides of the street), that give a lot of light. And I'm open for any suggestions. This forum has been great. I'll buy the HV just to try if anyone has been successful with mating to a new Dahua NVR.

    Bullet Cam Upgrade Model

Hello All, My neighborhood has had a spike in door checkers/outright car theft in the last few weeks from opportunist criminals. My mailbox cam and LPR are my best assets. I recently upgraded my entire system from analog (currently dispensed ~1300' of CAT6), but unfortunately, my mailbox cam is...

    Cuban Classic Cars

I was in Havana in 2018, and was super impressed with the repurposing and ingenuity to keep the old cars on the road. I looked at a dozen cars, mostly American from the 40's and 50's, and they had repurposed diesel engines taken from generators, a Toyota 4 cyl engine in a 1949 Cadillac, tractor...

    Bulk Cable Recommendation

I bought 1000' of this cable, it is extremely well made. Way overkill for my needs but it is deeply discounted (probably due to connector complaints) BUT, the RJ45's (qty 50) cost as must as 500' of this stuff. The issue is the insulation is so thick, you have to use a connector that accepts a...

    Weatherproof box for 5241E

    Weatherproof box for 5241E

I thought I would put this out there in case anyone is looking to weatherproof their 5241E size LPR. I live in a tropical zone which gets a lot of rain. That said I searched Amazon for a box that would be sized right for the 5241E without being too huge. I picked this up Amazon.com and tried it...
