DH-IPC-HDW5231R-Z firmware

I tried to update the firmware on my DH-IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras because of the vulnerabilities mentioned in New Firmware for IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_V2.800.0000013.0.R.191202.zip

When I tried to update, it timed out.

Current firmware on the camera(s) is:

Software Version 2.460.0000.3.R, Build Date: 2017-01-05
WEB Version 3.2.1.413002
ONVIF Version 2.42

Do I need an intermediate firmware version?

If your camera is behind the NVR then it can't access the internet.

The camera is connected to the NVR. But to clarify, I have downloaded the BIN file to computer accessing the camera's web page. When I go to upgrade, I select the downloaded BIN file on the computer and click upgrade.

It says it is transferring files, but it eventually times out

I would think that in an existing installation, that if the file is on the local network, it would just be a matter of selecting the new firmware BIN file and clicking upgrade. It shouldn't have to connect to the internet as the file is now local

I am not saying it needs internet to update.

My point being if it isn't connected to the internet, then the vulnerability doesn't exist for you.

That is an older camera and you are risking bricking it, so since it doesn't have internet, the update isn't gaining you anything....

I see. I thought there may have been image improvements.

Believe it or not, I think the picture quality on the 5231 is by far better than the 8mp Lorex camera it replaced. I just wish it had a little better night performance.

Of course it would because the Lorex was on a way less than ideal MP/sensor ratio.

I still have several 5231 cams still going and I am not gonna update the firmware until I have the replacement in hand lol.
