Use PTZ Movement to Trigger Blue Iris

I just bought my first PTZ camera and am using both in-camera PTZ tracking, and other cameras, to trigger PTZ presets. This works well.

However, what I want to happen, is that when ANY PTZ movement happens, the camera is triggered and recording starts. This is fairly accomplish able through motion detection. Right now I'm using in-camera PTZ, but may experiment with Blue Iris PTZ tracking

Then, when the PTZ returns to Preset 3 (default view), I want the trigger to end.

Is it possible to just trigger Blue Iris as soon as PTZ movement happens, and then top the trigger immediately after it ends? Perhaps using ONVIF? or when it returns to it's default preset? Camera is a Dahua

Set the camera up in BI for ONVIF triggers and not BI motion and it will only trigger when the camera is triggered.

Camera connected via ONVIF and having ONVIF trigger are two different things and setups in BI

Do as I said and it will work as you want.

You need to tell BI to pull ONVIF triggers and then you need to select ONVIF/External (depending on your BI version) as the motion detection.
