Can someone please advise how I can do a factory reset for this NVR? A physical reset button is not present on the mainboard. I'm asking to do this as I've already tried powering on/off to soft reset the NVR but keep getting "connection failed" error on mobile app and Smart PSS. I've also already removed the WD Purple 6TB SATA drive and ran the WD diagnostic showing the drive's perfectly fine. Picture attached is the mainboard. Any help is much appreciated.

Was it working before?
Are you locked out because you dont know the password?
Have you tried connecting to it at the machine itself with a monitor and mouse?
Have you tried connecting to it via a browser on your network?

isn't there an email associated with the unti for password recovery?
I know on my Amcrest Nvr's ( dahua 4208 OEM) if you screw up and save a password incorrectly they can email you a reset procedure.
I think this may be in place to complicate stealing NVRs as lucrative business perhaps
If every Jackass that stole an NVR could just push a button, to make it theirs, they'd be on Craigslist left and right I'd think.

If you have the skills, unsolder the battery (BT1). You could also try shorting out the battery, but that might damage it.

Is there any progress? Were you able to save NVR? I have same problem.

Sadly that looks different than the NVR5216-I model.. :(
This '-I' model has a reset switch on it.

My suggestion would also be like what was said a few months ago... try disconnecting the battery (somehow) and connecting it back again.
Trying to break the spot weld may work but then it's not easy to reconnect again.

It looks to be two batteries with yellow shrink wrap.... maybe using a craft knife to cut a gap between the two batteries and sliding a piece of plastic in to seperate (disconnect) them may work.
If you leave enough of the wrap intact then it would stay together.

That looks identical to the battery in an IC Realtime NVR708ns-p. Its a Dahua rebranded product that typically leaves full admin control to the installer and locks out a multitude of features. I have an identical unit at my office that IMO is junk (although functional). We replaced the unit with a 5216 from Andy. The battery is a single cell and is soldered top and bottom.

Ok, short of unsoldering the CMOS battery from the board, which I'd really not rather do as it's soldered to both sides, and I only have a regular Radio Shack low wattage soldering iron. Is there a way to factory reset a NVR5216-16P-4KS2 without knowing the password? I got this used, so I do not know the password.

Is it OEM or Dahua? IF it is OEM you might be able to contact the OEM provider and with Picture of the SN and info they might be able to give you a Reset..

Hate to ask, Have you opened it and looked to see if there was a button, There are many different versions of the NVR.. I mean sure mine is 32ch but is from 2018 and mine does have a Reset button.. Also removing the Battery will not reset the NVR that has not been a thing for many years now..

Does it have a Pattern? I will admit that it can take some time but I had bought a used NVR 3 or 4 years ago and after 10 days was able to figure out the pattern.. It is not easy to remember the ones you have already tried sometimes but once you get in by pattern there are things that can be done to reset the NVR and then you will have your own password..

If the NVR works for other than connection to DMSS and smartPSS, I would suspect some kind of communication configuration problem. A while back, dahua changed the P2P servers and older versions of the remote software no longer connect. Perhaps an older NVR won't work with dahua P2P anymore? I'm just thinking out loud, not knowing this either way.

No reset button, that was the first thing I looked for. It is like the photo above with the yellow CMOS battery

The NVR does work; I just don't have the password to get into the main menu to reset the NVR and obviously I cannot make any changes either.

Look for the 1 and 2 contacts and without power connect them with a jumper cable and then provide power and once the NVR powers up, remove the cable.

Unfortunately, the board on this NVR5216-16P-4KS2 is different. But I was able to get the answers to the security questions by contacting the seller. I was able to set a new password and do a factory reset.

I'm feeling a little under the weather today, and tired Now that it is reset, I will mess with it when I feel better

Ok, I did a factory reset, but all the accounts are still present. I can access the admin account, but cannot access the 888888 admin account or the other user

The FW version must be an older version as it looks MS XPish with the graphics. See the attached photos

I know this sounds crazy, but those that can get "under the hood" of the firmware have seen that sometimes a factory reset or a firmware update doesn't take with just one factory reset.

My default method, and many here, is 3 factory resets.

So try 2 more and see what happens.

And that might be an old enough firmware model that is on the older P2P servers that don't work anymore - @bigredfish - can the older NVRs access the newer P2P servers?

Obviously, I don't want to get too far into this if we can't communicate with a smartphone via DMSS. I believe the version bigredfish is running is in the 4's?
