Proper electrical / light box and adapter to use on permanent exterior stucco installation

Hello everyone,

I am having some remodel work done involving both interior and exterior on one corner of my house. There will be stucco work, and walls will be open so I figure this is the perfect time to install a mounting box for a camera.

This will be a permanently installed box, with conduit to my NVR location.

My question is what is the proper electrical box to use? My contractor is not really knowledgeable about camera installs, so I will need to give him the box and tell him where to install it. Once installed I will run the conduit.

I am considering a standard 4" square or octagon box and using something like a PFA200G gang box adapter. Can these be used outdoors? Is there a better solution? I would rather it be embedded into the stucco and not surface mounted. If the camera is not installed, a blank cover plate can be used.

I did search and read a few threads like this one:

A very bad picture, but this is all I have at the moment. Camera will be installed in the overhang about a foot from the corner.

Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

Numerous options ..

One is a good solid 2 gang electrical box with plenty of room for a good length of cat6 cable in it, and then you would mount a junction box on that when ready to put up the camera. I like to have enough 2x4 next to the box to properly secure the junction box and camera

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am planning on an electrical box of some type recessed into the stucco (not surface mounted), just wanted to figure out which style is the most "universal", "future proof" and camera mount friendly. Whether a 4" double gang square or octagonal, or single gang box. I would run conduit (EMT) with CAT 6 or 5e to it.

For mounting the camera, I prefer not to have a second full-sized junction box like the PFA130E, but rather a flush mount adapter plate like the PFA200G. Problem is I don't see many adapter plate options available and technically the PFA200G is not rated for outdoor use.

I basically want to install a standard electrical box and an adapter plate that has the standard electrical box mounting screw locations and can support a variety of IP cameras (I am using mostly Dahua 5442 at the moment). Like the PFA200G but outdoor rated.

You may need to customize a lid if you want flush mounted.

Perhaps an outdoor rated electrical box embedded into the wall is the way to go

Dahua and Hikvision make a lot of junction boxes, however I believe a more universal electrical box with plenty if internal space for the connectors would be the way to go for an in wall setup.

I would try a 2 gang out door rated box and make certain there is solid 2x4 support adjacent to it if I need more support for a camera setup.
