Did someone make new lens covers for the 5442 series bullets?

I've got two older 5442s both with the plastic lens cover degraded enough where they aren't really usable. Otherwise fine.

Shame we cant buy a $5 lens cover, did someone make any for sale? Hate to trash $450 worth of perfectly good cameras for a piece of clear plastic

Tried Andy for spares? Maybe they could be user replaced. Don't know, just throwing it out there. An alternative would be low iron glass although you might have to get it professionally cut, or maybe making one out of a UV cut camera filter of the plastic type. Not sure how you'd cut it, but plastic should be more feasible to diy than glass. Note here for cameras they do make some square filter made to go into external holders, so you could get square and unmounted and cut to size. How you would make them fit, unsure. Presume they glue in round the edges.

I thought it was poly - plastic

Some coating, anti-reflective maybe? Is pitted and literally chipping off in very thin pieces? The other is yellowed and more than surface deep,
I’ll post a pic. But this is an age old problem.

Hey, that's the same kit I posted back in March here but for a member's fogged dome. What a coincidence! :lmao:

I'd hope it's glass though...UV and smog attacks practically all plastics.

When I was into 35mm photography, anytime a new lens was added to the collection; good practice dictated you by an inexpensive UV protector filter and simply twist it on the threads on the end of the lens. Primarily it was to prevent fingerprints smudging the lens element... added bonus:
  • Absorbs some ultraviolet light and reduces bluish cast of daylight.
  • Clear filter provides no additional coloration or contrast, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
  • General protection filter reduces dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching lens elements.
I wonder if they'd consider incorporating something similar to their housings
