Why are people buying 4K Dash Cameras? They still perform poorly in dark

The same reason they buy cheap 4k security cameras - chase MP baby lol
Call me crazy but I usually have my headlights on when it's dark......

Not all. the 4K Viofo A139 Pro is brilliant in the dark for a dashcamera. It has Sony's Starvis IMX 678. Performance is better in my opinion than the 2mp Viofo A129. I've had both. That said, nightime will always be difficult for a dashcamera as fast movement requires a fast shutter which is the enemy of low light.
