not as of yet... an officer called me but it was the one from the accident scene not the one who came to my house to get the tag number. The first one said she didn't have any details on it and that she couldn't make out the tag when I gave it to her at the scene, and she seemed to get irritated when I told her I had others research it and found it... I talked to insurance company yesterday and they said they haven't received a report from the police yet so they had no info either but said I was not being charged with the accident and if they do find the guy will try to recover my deductible from him. At least insurance company is giving me a fair price for my truck... I was afraid they might try to screw me... bad thing is I will have to buy another and have a payment again ....

Ugh that sucks. Officer probably doesn't want the tags to be found as it results in more work for them.

If your vehicle is like mine, you could never replace it for what insurance would give.

Hopefully this is to the dollar amount that insurance decides it has an incentive to pursue this regardless of police involvement.

I don't know all the particulars, but I have a friend in insurance and they have PI's on retainer to track down stuff. I suspect it is probably more insurance fraud type things than hit and runs, but I suspect they have the capability if they decide to.

yeah I got the distinct feeling they didnt give a rats ass. I paid almost 36k for my truck back in 2016.. they are paying me 28.5k on the insurance payout... so not sure if its worth it to them to pursue the guy that hit me or not.. plus they are having to pay the bill for the ER visit...

Your comment in your other thread reminded me of this thread - any updates to share?

My neighbor had a very similar accident recently and the same thing is happening. No real push to find the guy that hit him.

no. Seriously the cops just dont give a rats ass. I cant get any update from the police. No one will call me back. The cop that came to my house that I gave the tag number said they would attempt to contact the guy at the address on file... but never got a call back from the cops and the insurance company said they still hadnt gotten anything from the police. They filed it as a not at fault accident but of course I had to pay the deductible and they said if they are ever able to recover from the driver they will reimburse me, but Im not holding my breath. No one seems to care a crime was committed.. they just want to file a report and a claim and close it I guess...

This is so infuriating to read. Anything change? I trust you'll update us if you hear more or are ever reimbursed for your deductible.

It's like credit card theft. There is so little effort put into holding anyone accountable, you have to start asking, are we the stupid ones for working for a living and playing by the rules?

It's like residential burglary....the likelihood that you'll get caught, if you case the place well and pre-plan, are low...and if you DO get caught, the punishment is worth the risk so the perps keep doing it.

UGH that totally sucks. You are the victim and have to pay for it. Great society we live in. So much for having insurance that is supposed to cover these events.

And unfortunately the police don't care and insurance just writes it off yet charges you more, so unless you have the cash to do it for the principal of, hiring a private investigator would be the only way to go to try to find this person. And that vehicle is long gone or changed hands or repaired by now.

I saw on Nextdoor a similar thing but the vehicle behind them had a dashcam and could make out the vehicle and the plate. They called 911 but because nobody was hurt and the cars were driveable, nobody responded and they wouldn't take his video either when he stopped by the station. Great job society. People on Nextdoor are encouraging them to send it to the media, but they won't do anything either.

Not to be overtly political, but once we realize that the role of police has changed from Peace Officer to Law Enforcement Officer, I think we can be more realistic with our expectations. While there may be individual LEOs that are noble, selfless and altruistic, the real purpose is to enforce rules handed down by the elite.

Watching cops enforce clearly unconstitutional laws only underscores this perversion. Ultimately, we'll figure out that they're not to protect us from the bad guys, but to protect the elite from us.

It is possible that the increase has nothing to do with your claim. It seems that everyone's insurance is going up this year. My homeowner's insurance went up by 24% this year. We have been in this house for more than 10 years and have never had a claim. My daughter's auto insurance went up 20% this year and she has not had a claim in two years.

Same here, both house and cars up with no claims.

And as more EV's are placed on the roadways it'll climb even more....they incur more costly damage to themselves from collisions (because of their costly parts) and cause more damage to other vehicles when in a collision (due to their weight).

Something else to look forward to.

If there’s not a Homicide involved they don’t care. And they certainly will Never bother making sure you get your jump drives back.
