I'm building a new system for our office as the camera's have exceeded the processor power of our existing box. With the new i9-9900 Intel I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting the 12MP with 8 threads or the 16MP with 16 threads. Will Blue Iris make use of the extra processing or should I spend the money difference on a bigger heat sink? This box will be a dedicated NVR with a future dedicated NAS with 40TB of storage.

Do they do different number of thread versions?

I know you don't want one ending in a 'F' .

In Windows 7, resource monitor, it shows 80-90 threads being used by BI v4. I have eight camera's running, a couple at very low fps. Anyway, that shows how many threads are running so I would think that the workload would be spread across all cpu's/threads about equally.

the 12MP with 8 threads or the 16MP with 16 threads

You are mixing up terms here, and it doesn't make sense. Do you mean the i7-9700K with 8 threads versus the i9-9900K with 16 threads?

There is a difference. Not a HUGE difference, mind you, because both are 8 core CPUs. Just one of them has hyperthreading. If you would be pushing 1000+ MP/s through Blue Iris then I would recommend the CPU with hyperthreading.

Blue Iris does make excellent use of more cores/threads.

And 9700K indeed has 12 MB of L3 cache while the 9900K has 16 MB of L3 cache. That difference doesn't matter much though.

I assembled an I9 12900KF with 32G 6800MHz Samsung 980 Pro SSD 1Terra and 24 Terra HDD with a GForce 1050TI. Running windows 10 with a wama commander but the commander will crush when all 43 cameras running on main sub. Thinking of doing Blue iris. I just pray I won’t have any issues. Running the wama commander using sub stream it runs smooth but doesn’t record. My thinking is they haven’t push the software that high with so many cameras

If you go Blue iris, check that you are not downloading the very latest ( Beta) version. Look for a "Stable Release" version. View attachment 132202
Thanks for the reply. One question can I use multiple display with each display having different scenes ?

I finally fired up this machine with blue iris. Running only 33 cameras, which 8 are PTZ and the remaining done and bullet cameras. Everything seems good but my CPU is running at 100%
