I need more light.
My local electric company offers dusk-to-dawn security light installation on existing poles. I was thinking that instead of buying additional lighting or IR illumination I could just have the electric company stick a light on a pole on my property.
The choices are:

100-Watt High-Pressure Sodium Vapor
200-Watt High-Pressure Sodium Vapor
175-Watt Mercury Vapor
400-Watt mercury Vapor
60-Watt LED

What would be the best choice?

I have 3 panel 150W LED's (50W/panel) on my poles and they are great. I would go 5000k LED but more than 60W. If that's your only option, I'd go for the 60W LED but find out the light temperature, 4000K is quite yellowish. Mine are 5000K and the light is nice from them.

We switched from Sodium lights to LED in our lot at the Condo. and it's a more directed fixture, instead of 360 degree lighting with a metal roof. So it concentrates the light more on the lot and less on the woods.
The city took the sodium vapor down in favor of an LED on the telephone pole out on our streets. 60watts is like 800 lumens, if that helps.

The spread is related to the design of the bulb and fixture not to the type of lighting. When they say 60w led, they dont mean a 60w equivalent led that only takes 9w. They mean an led that draws 60w so its closer to 8-10000 lumen.

Is the fixture attached to your meter or are they paying for the power? I would ask them if they could point you to some of these installations so you can see for yourself.

I'd have to look it up, but I replaced the 5 of the 6 rooftop Sodium lamps with a similar bulb from Feit. I just bypassed all the funky electronics and went straight to socket, and a Photo cell trigger. 5000k versions. I think they were 10,000 Lumens. Like Bradner said above the 4000k is a bit yellowish. you can see 2 of them on the roofline in this shot. Screenshot 2022-03-05 230402.png

It's not metered. It's just a monthly charge. $8 a month for the 60W LED .................. if you want it for peace of mind. If you can show that it would actually improve safety, I think I have a case for traffic safety, then no charge. Failing that I could probably buy a solar powered light and stick it on the pole myself.

You can put it on the pole IF you own the pole. If the utility company installed it, it's their property and you can't put it on there without their permission.

That's fairly common knowledge but I was never one to ask permission. :)

I put in the hue 1600 lumens bulbs and set a timer for sunset/sunrise. I have 3 of them , just used the fixtures that came with the house , one by the door and one on each Side of the garage. Very bright I run all cameras in color 24/7 . Works out very well .

Until they see it on the pole. They are not known to be "gentle" about removing unauthorized equipment and can, and probably will, charge you for the removal and a fee for having it there in the first place. Do as you will, it's your money.

JUst want to make sure you're aware of what you can get into.
For that reason I took my big PTZ off the utility pole, just in case. I still have 3 turrets on it for a couple years but didn't want to keep tempting fate with my PTZ hanging off it...

There is no fundamental difference in what color range to choose for night lights. It all depends on personal preference. If you need an accurate color transfer, use lamps with a color temperature of 4000-5000 degrees. Otherwise, choose a more familiar option with a 2700 temperature (incandescent lamps are good for this). Choosing street lighting is even more subjective, but you can check out vont.com for that. Take your time and look for the best solutions.
