I am looking at buying a system design software but as usual, there are many conflicting sources of information and I was wondering whether anyone had an informed view from experience. The more obvious choice is the JVSG software which appears to be well developed now offering a range of options. However, I know that some use Sketchpro for their designs and others strongly support Blue Beam but they both seem more aligned to construction although VideoCAD seems to have a SketchUp plugin free. Any ideas very welcome

Hello and Welcome to IPCT! I have some experience with using the JVSG Demo software and love it. It gives you a verily accurate representation of what the layout will look like, as long as you've imported/scaled everything into drawing properly. I myself find it easy to use coming from a engineering back ground and being familiar with AutoCad. I would recommend it and I also plan on purchasing it soon. I haven't tried any other software out there on the market yet, so maybe there is something better?

This is not a reasonable approach.

You will not find a security/cctv forum or blog on the Internet, where there would not be such laudatory posts. May be no other brand has won such amount of enthusiasm in hiden self-advertaising.

VideoCAD 10 (new version) can import end export COLLADA files which can be exported and imported by SketchUP.
