Intermittent "Clip: disk not ready" error on 5.2.3.1

I have been recording my clips successfully to a Zyxel NAS for more than a year (probably going on three).

Last night we had some pretty serious storms roll through - which tripped 3 of my GFCI circuits - but never killed power to the BI machine or to the NAS.

Starting right around the peak of the storm, I began getting notifications for "disk not ready". Thing is, they're extremely infrequent. Only one or two every few hours:



The NAS is reporting zero issues. Network appears fine - no noticeable latency or other errors. I'm having BI rebuild the DB now hoping that it's a glitch. If I still get glitches, I will switch to an external USB drive. If that resolves it then I still won't know if it is the drive or the network-based storage connectivity that is the cause.

Anyone seen this kind of behavior?

Quick power blips can cause havoc, and even damage things, that's why all computer related equipment needs to be on a good Backup UPS.
The old un-plug it from power and wait 10 minutes applies here.

I just had this happen to me. I cant trace it to a particular event, but it may have started happening mid-March about 1.5 months after I put in a replacement used power supply in the computer (fan of original power supply died). I have my server and cameras all on a UPS, so I don't think it was electrical damage from an outside event. My server had been running with a 10TB drive for more than a year when this started happening. I thought it may have been due to a BI update, but I was not sure. I tried rebuilding the database, deleting old videos, but nothing worked. Then I noticed that the disk activity in the Task Manager sometimes would spike to 100% and wouldnt come back until 30 seconds or so later. I noticed the problem was very frequent while the BI service was running, so I stopped it. The problem stopped. Then after a while, I began a defragment of the drive, and eventually the problem happened again. It seems to only occur when writing is being done to the drive. I also noticed that in the Windows Event Viewer, there were multiple Warning entries for:

126-127 instances of: "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR86 during a paging operation."
Followed by: "Disk 1 has been surprise removed."
Followed by: "{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\New\Cam1.20200408_114417.bvr. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Followed by: "{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume177\New\Cam1.20200408_114417.bvr. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Followed by: "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued."

I ran multiple hard drive testing programs (including Seagate's own SeaTools) and the drive passed all the tests.
I finally got fed up yesterday and took out the 10TB drive and put in an old 500GB drive. The problem went away.
I put the 10TB drive in another computer and ran some tests and passed them all.
I put in the old power supply (with a new fan in it) and the 10TB drive back into the BI server and so far everything has been working for about 5 hours.
Only things that have been changed in the server are the power supply and the SATA cable (which had been working for years). I'm leaning to it being a power supply issue. I plan to do some load tests on it to see if the voltage drops.

I appreciate suggestions and feedback. In my case, the error happens on either of two separate drives... Neither is connected to the PC's power supply (one is a NAS, the other an external USB drive).

It seems to happen for about 12 hours or so after a power loss (even though all items are on UPS backups). Within 24 hours, the errors completely stop... Until the next power glitch.

No data actually appears to be missing, so aside from the annoying notification sounds, there appears to be no I'll consequence.
I can ignore it, but was hoping there would be more "me too" posts that would indicate a common issue.

I also started getting these this month, i just started to mess with it yesterday. My disk was full from flagged clips, i thought i fixed it by unselecting save flagged clips. But it is still happening today any time there is an alert. I will have to go back and check how full my disk is tonight when i get home.

Swaps between Clip: disk full and Clip: disk not ready. I now have 1GB free after deleting old flagged clips.

In blue iris, it is recommended that you allocate only 90% of disk space to BI. So there is 10% free space always.
It is recommend that you use size not time to determine when to delete files.
I recommend that you delete the BI data base and reboot the BI computer, this will rebuild the database so it contains the current files. Manually deleting files will only mess the system up if the DB is not rebuilt.

I have a USB drive connected to a USB port on a access point (router) that I use for BI clone camera recording (backup) . The drive goes not ready and mess up the allocation, with respect to BI during a power failure. All equipment is on UPS. But the backup UPS is not instantaneous in switching. I go in every few months and clean up the old floating files on the USB drive.

Yup, had 10% free but the auto protect flagged files were not deleting. I have a 4TB (3.6) just for camera clips or New file. The computer and BI runs of a separate 150GB disk.

Thanks for the tip on deleting DB file, somehow my alerts also got messed up also. Deselected limit clips age, now just using the limit to 3000GB option.

Basically starting files from scratch since they are not populating in window. I can still go to New file and look at clips by date and camera. At least files are deleting now by themselves and freeing space on the disk. we will see what happens in a few weeks when the folder fills up again.
