Reducing bandwidth for remote cameras

Hello,

I have a vacation home that has 7 cameras and currently we use Xfinity with a Unifi USG Pro VPN connection to our main home where the BI server is. My question is, is there a way, or a specific camera model that will only upload if motion is detected?

We are trying to reduce the cost of the xfinity connection and get a slower speed (they just raised our rate $25/month). I also am looking into using my existing T-mobile backup LTE internet connection as the primary connection.

This home is empty all but 4 months a year so keeping the 300/10 speed for me seems like a waste.

Are you monitoring each camera directly? If so, are you using a VPN or port forwarding? Are you using an NVR? Have you considered a VMS like Blue Iris?

I'd suggest adding a BI server at the vacation home and sending alerts by SMS or email. You could then remote into the BI server to review video as needed. Another option would be to stream a lower res video stream from each camera, use a substream at a lower bit rate.
