Sighthound has been working on video analytics since at lease 2013 when it acquired Vitamin D. The current version (5) (priced at 250) promises people detection to eliminate false alarms. This has not been very accurate according to users on their forum. The vms itself has limited basic functionally such as not being able to easily disable alerts when you are home. (other basic functions were recently added like allowing a matrix camera view).

Sighthound has been spending millions working on its cloud API. This promises face recognition, vehicle make model and plate recognition and more. Face Recognition, Vehicle Recognition, Face Detection & Person Detection API'

The cloud API is NOT integrated in version 5 of the VMS. However, the folks at Sighthound have indicated that Version 6.0 is coming soon and will have its Computer Vision platform integrated. There is no indication of the pricing model, however, if its anything close to the current model, it will allow end users to have some powerful analytic tools at their disposal. The real question is how accurate will it be.

A linux version should also be available.

We recently added it. Considering that Sighthound appears to be doing away with its forum, it should be useful.

yes, my thoughts exactly. their forum wasnt very active, but would help in certain situations. They say they are going to be more active on facebook and twitter, which isnt the same as a nice forum. do u have any insider info on when the 6.0 is comming out. I thought they had said 4th Q of this year... but not sure....

but glad its here, i thought i was the only one here that uses this software.

I don't have any info other than what was posted publicly.
The issue with sighthound is that it's designed for simplicity which is very limiting for many.

i agree, but feel their motion detection is pretty spot on. never understood people needing more than cross line intrusion, doorway opening/closing, and the ability to mask out certain parts of the viewable image (trees, street, etc)

There are lots of folks stating that the people detection is not accurate. More importantly if you can't easily disable alerts it makes the whole thing a bit worthless.

Has anyone heard any updates about the beta release? I am a part of the beta program too. Just wondering if anyone's heard anything. I am really looking forward to this upgrade.

I talked to them last week and they still didn't have a time frame for a beta release

I agree that sighthound is the best at sending me e-mails with an exact snap shot in view. That being said, I am not willing top shell out for the pro version when I only need 4 camera license so I duplicated my VM (running everything under virtualization) so I just have two instances of SH running. Can't wait to test the new version 6.

If you can not afford the license fee, then dont use the software. Pirating the software in this manner is no different that stealing electronics from best buy. Stop doing it.

I can’t speak for goldserve, but I am running two instances of Sighthound Video in 2 VM’s as well. Both of my copies are licensed and paid for versions. I only have 4 cameras that I need Sighthound for too and can’t justify $250 for four cameras. Running two paid copies on different VM’s doesn’t violate Sighthound’s EULA. If you read on Sighthound’s forums you’ll see that many people complain about the lack of license options offered by Sighthound since there is no middle tier.

I followed up with Sighthound today regarding the beta release of Sighthound Video 6.0. Looks like they are still working on the beta and don't have an ETA fro it's release yet. Below is their response:

Thanks for being interested in Sighthound Video 6.0. We are excited about its release since we do firmly believe that this will be one of our best releases as of yet. In SV 6.0 we have included further detection types; however, we are receiving lower accuracy. Currently, we are gaining training data so that we can further train our network and perform accuracy tests. Given this information, we do not have a specific timeline as to when 6.0 Beta will be released. Thank you for your patience as we work on improving 6.0 for a release. We do apologize about the inconvenience.

Does the AI person detection requires sending picture/video to cloud? I have Amazon cloud cam today in addition to other "dumb" cameras, the Amazon cam sending GB data to cloud everyday although it's 90% accurate and being very useful (or the false motion detection would be more than 10 folds).

Is it possible to have the person detection resolved local in the computer than in the cloud? Or even better make the alert API available so someone can create their own AI handle the video and alerting on the computer?
Sighthound 5 likely 6 does this locally.
