Understanding file sizes

I am struggling to understand how to reduce the BI file size when using a Hikvision camera.

I have uploaded the video section photo of the camera in question but can anyone please advise what settings I need to adjust to make the BI file size smaller?

Make sure you are using direct to disc recording in Blue Iris, otherwise Blue Iris will be re-encoding, probably to H.264 and a higher bit rate.

Many thanks, i've reduced the BR down to 1500.

The DTD option, seems to like a good soloution but apart from not being able to use an overlay, are there any other disadvantages?

Recording can only begin on a keyframe (I frame) so if you record on motion detection then you need to set the pre-trigger video buffer (in Blue Iris camera properties > Record tab) equal to your I frame interval divided by Frame Rate which in this case is 50 / 12 or about 4 seconds.
