Is the Blue Iris version on amcrest the same? If I buy the key there, can I use that key on the version downlaoed from the Blue Iris web site? Is the tech support the same?

They key is the same...around here we dont like supporting crap companies like amcrest...buy from the website..

Forgive me because I'm new to all of this, but why do you need the Blue Iris software? Why not just buy a security system and use your own NVR and whichever app it comes with to monitor it?

Blue Iris is much more versatile than any NVR. Read the BI subject thread.
It's a personal choice.

Blue iris IS the NVR..its software that runs on a pc turning the pc into an NVR...
