This post is exactly backwards gaslighting. The 17th amendment took the senators from actually representing their state, instead making nation-wide big money decide who gets elected. Since the small population states have the same number of senators as the big ones, they are easy targets for how big money corrupts the elections. All the out-of-staters have to do is outspend who they don't want, using TV ads and other election advertising, and the seat is purchased for them via all the dumb voters who believe the lying TV ads. When senators were appointed by the state legislators, they were at least representing the state legislators (who of course can also be corrupt), instead of the out-of-state money.
Here are examples of out-of-state money to buy senate seats. The median is that 2/3 of the campaign money comes from out of state. Look at the 3rd one listed, $29 million from out of state, with less than 10% of campaign contributions coming from those living in the state. Election stolen by the 17th amendment!
