Would this do for license plate captures?

I was playing around with the SD49225XA-HNR the other day and had the great idea of trying to capture license plates just for fun as I have seen other people on here doing it with more equipped cameras. A 2MP camera running 1/2500 - 1/3000 shutter speed really gives a good image of plates on cars going about 35 mph, here are some captures:



Now as I understand, it's good to dedicate a camera for this and I was looking at the IPC-T3241T-ZAS to dedicated. The PTZ that captured these images is mounted on the left side of my garage looking to right at the road. If I placed this camera to the right of the garage at the soffit (looking below the street), can this produce good still images of license plates?

Zoomed in fully I think it can work, just want to collect some thoughts before I pull the trigger.

What is that distance angled from the garage to where it would be pointing to capture a plate. Don't guess, measure.

That varifocal is certainly capable if it is close enough. If it gets much beyond 35 feet though, it will struggle. Personally I wouldn't go past 25 feet. I suspect it is too far and the varifocal isn't powerful enough.

If you do not have the feature turned on the PTZ to see what the zoom number is, I would suggest turning that on and seeing the focal length the PTZ was at when it captured those plates. I suspect it is well past the 13.5mm focal length.

Can you get an angle like that? I get a lot of useable frames on this angle. So the weakness in having a single focus point zoomed in, kind of gets compensated by how many chances I get to capture some good frames. 5442 2. overview with the 5241 z12 doing LPR work.
