What's that things visible under IR?

Today is bad weather like 2*C, high humidity, foggy but no rain. I can see these things on my cam when IR is on (smart IR):



But when I disable IR it looks "normal" like through my eyes:



What are these flying things? Water vapor? They makes IR unusable...

Yep that is water vapor fog.

Yes, anything that comes close to your cam's IR and lens when the IR is on will do that.

IR is light which will reflect back off of the mist/fog/rain/whatever. You just don't see it with your eyes. You do with the cam.

So placing external IR iluminator few meters away from camera would help?
