Has anybody ordered anything over $400 from alibaba before? Thinking of ordering a surrey bicycle that's about $500 or so.

Alibaba or Aliexpress? Alibaba is for business. Aliexpress has more protection for consumers.

Step 1) Make sure the company actually exists

You can find many stories online of people buying from Alibaba and thinking they were protected and weren't.

they are the same, though a bit more comfortable to buy from AE. Just contact them and ask for minimum quantities required. In my experience they will always sell to you

This advice only stands if it really is the same company. It's not the same. And if they are the same company it's still not the same.

Alibaba you have little to no protection. It's for B2B not B2C!

I just ordered an NVR from Alibaba. I'll post a new thread about it when I get the order. (Or not.)

It depends who the seller is. Otherwise it's like saying I ordered from eBay and I didn't get a grey-imported camera.

Fingers crossed all goes well.

Thanks. I was going to give details in a new thread but you have a point. (Not trying to advertise or recommend them .)

Ordered a Dahua NVR5416-16P-4KS2.
Shenzhen Guowei Security Electronic Co., Ltd. and I dealt with Mrs Nicky Zhou.

Emails were promptly answered so far. Remember there is a 13 hour time difference.

This will be replacing a QC8816. The 8816 works fine. Just upgrading.
