Turret cams and wall mounts. How do you protect from rain / elements ?

Hi guys,

I've always considered the front lens to be proned to (water) stains and grime, not to mention spiders...
What do you have to protect and / or minimize rain and sun glare ?

Am I paranoid having a turret camera attached to the wall with little rain or no protection at all ?

You are paranoid lol.

Many have those exposed and are just fine.

A problematic location then maybe you add a self made cover.

That isn't really a lid and doesn't provide much protection, if any. It is easier to install cams with that, but don't expect it to provide any protection.

You did not state what manufacturer of turret cams you are mounting. I always try to mount my turret cams under the roof overhang, but have 4 Dahua 5442 series turret cams mounted out in the open. They have been there for years w/o any water issues, except grime build up on lens. Last year we had back to back hurricanes with 100+ mph winds for hours, including 15" of rainfall. They were not powered up, because the grid was down. Powered back up just fine when grid came back up. I do find that the ones mounted with the PFB211W mount have less water marks on the lens, during normal rainfall. Your paranoid if you are using Dahua turrets. Oh yes, dielectric grease on RJ45 connectors.

Hi,

I've recently purchased a HDW5442TP-ZE-2712-S3. I have a bit of roof overhang...nothing more than 10" though.
 
I have plenty of cameras completely exposed on poles, not a real issue.

Any overhang under soffit will help but not necessary
