The host and also the windows virtual machine seems to be stable until BI is started, even without any cameras attached (the only camera that was linked to BI has been powered down).
About 2 minutes after BI is started, the host then crashes (purple screen).
Maybe BI doesn't like the 'thin provisioned' virtual disK?
So you've confirmed the issue only occurs once bi is running.

Maybe bi doesn't like the thin provisioned disk but that should be invisible to the guest os. As far as it knows it has the full size available to it.

I may have missed this but did you say how much disk you have actually provisioned for the guest or was it the entire 1tb disk?

If bi is crashing the guest, it shouldn't also be crashing the host unless maybe you have some hardware passed directly through to the guest.

Thanks for confirming this is anomalous.
Nothing is passed through.
Its an intel network card but maybe that's the problem?
Might have to wait for a trial of an additional network card, for the BI virtual machine..?

Is esxi on your host fully patched up?
Check for bios and firmware updates as well.

Thanks...TBH its a Chinese clone X99 motherboard which i have just chip upgraded and, via a BIOS hack, turbo-boosted (frequency increase from 2.6 to 3.2), but i believe this was happening before any of the described was done.
Firmware updates are now limited with esxi as i understand...

Some xeons do not support graphics as well. Not sure which ones.
if your using a video card, that could be something to look at.
