so looking to buy 2 of the starlight ipc-hdw5231r-z cams and will be installing on either soffit or pvc vinyl side.

which would be better for install, a mount or junction box? could you also recommend the actual model numbers too please?

You can screw it directly to the soffit, but you have to cur a fairly large hole. As for the siding, you may want to look at siding mounting blocks which are typically made of pvc or fiberglass. They come in different profiles to match your siding.

It's generally best not to mount the cameras too high.
