I recently have seen outside ip addresses connecting to BI. Many are blocked but a few seem to connect. How do I block these as well as what does the number 3 represent?

Thank You

Ok I understand turning off the port forwarding, but once you do that you lose the ability to use the BlueIris Mobile app on the IOS.

is there something I’m missing or is that the sacrifice of using the mobile app that you chance outside connections?

thanks.

So you're saying setup both my Lan and Wan address to be my local ip address in the IOS app? Then purchase a VPN license and I should be able to hit the BlueIris app without porting out. Does anyone had a little more insight on this as I have read the Wiki and have looking for instructions on BI that would basically walk your through. I guess I just don't understand why would BI sale the mobile application without warning or instructions on being hacked.

There is no purchase necessary. Use OpenVPN
==========================
My general VPN post
There are two types of VPN, do not get them confused.
The type depends on where the traffic conversation (traffic) originates

1) origination: local home network, destination the internet.
This type of VPN is purpose to hides your activity from the internet, it is outbound, it normally costs a monthly fee to use. Direction is from your home PC to the internet, going to your bank, google, porn sites,,,, this not what you want. This VPN uses a VPN server that is in the middle of your communications.

2) Origination: the internet world wide web, destination: your home network.
This VPN type is used to provide a secure connection onto your local network, in bound to you local home network, from your office computer, your cell phone in your car, tablet at the coffee shop.. This is what you want, it does not have a monthly fee and is normally completely free. OpenVPN is this type of VPN.

If you home internet provider is a cellular network, then DDNS (dynamic Domain Name System) may not work, the DDNS is needed for most Inbound VPN services (OpenVpn) to get your home IP address (it is not static) so OpenVPN may not work for you.

A video on the paid VPN.

Thank You, I installed openvpn but could not get me BI mobile IOS app to connect. I had a good Ip for openvpn and still not connecting.

Am I to believe the BI all on mobile will not work securely?

BI is fine. Not using a VPN is like leaving your front door of your house unlocked. As long as some does not try to open it it is OK. Leaving a port non standard open is asking for trouble.

A number of different people have set up open VPN and can help.
Who is your internet prover.?
Are you using a separate modem and router ? Or are you using a combined unit ? What is the make and model number of your equipment ?

It is best to use a separate Modem and router. It is easy if the OpenVPN is on the router . There are a number of different method to set up open VPN. search the forum.

Iuse a seperate moted and an ASUS router.

Where did you install OpenVPN? Yes to the question of LAN and WAN settings being the same in the iOS app.

Thank You

My internet provider is century link DSL. The router/modem doesn’t hand it’s own vpn.

All my cameras come into a Trendnet Gig switch with a line going to computer and one to the dsl modem.

although dsl is very slow I’m able to make use of the mobile app when traveling.

I’ll search around on the forum. I’ve left openvpn on and running so I should be a bit more secure. Just will be unable to use BI when I travel.

Did you install OpenVPN server on the BI computer and configure it or did you just install the OpenVPN client? Trying to follow what you did. There are many YouTube articles describing how to do this. There are more steps but once done, you can have secure remote access to your cameras.

I own my own modem / router. I have it set to pass thru, bypass, the modem then connects to my asus router. The asus router runs openvpn.
