"Road to Kirwin" -- Viofo 129 Duo sample (and question)

I have had this installed for about 6 months now. The sticky "forever" tape released on the back window of my truck -- so no rear cam to show you right now.

This is the road to Kirwin Wyoming, an abandoned mining town in the mountains. The video starts at about 8,200 feet in elevation, with the mountain peaks running 12 - 13k . The destination is about 6 miles farther up the road and another 1,000 feet higher. I only manually saved this clip on that road.

So... all of the reflections from the top of my dash drive me crazy--- does that polarized filter help? Any ideas for reducing those reflections?

I skipped buying that filter at the time as I had very little issue with my old dash cam... probably should have bought it. Oh well-- no time like the present.

The GHOST TOWN of Kirwin was featured in a Wyoming PBS documentary.....


this video shows much of the route--- I just didn't save all the 3 minute clips of the road there.

The polarizing filter does help but only to a certain degree. Try mounting the camera up higher. The filter will not eliminate all the glare and reflection sadly.

Camera is in my F-150 and mounted all the way up to the upper edge of the windshield just left of rear-view mirror. She's up as far as it can go. Hopefully the filter will help. It's really only bad in that direct driving-into-the-sun situation...
Here is some video facing away from the sun.... skip 3 minutes in unless you are enthralled with me pulling my camper through a parking lot.


The ghost town is about 40 miles in a straight line from the SE corner of Yellowstone park...

Definitely depends on the angle of the windshield as well, SUV/Trucks always seems to have a steeper angle compared to sedans

Also check your camera at least twice a month to make sure the date stamp is consistent

Here is what I did got a 37mm quality Hoya Polarising filter and attached it to the body via some Blue tack been on the car 2 years

Some times the time resets to 1/1/99 (way before this thing was even assembled at the factory) as well as 12am

That's an expensive CPL filter But you definitely get what you pay for

I am working at hitting the manual record button more often as I drive. It has just been set-n-forget in the truck, and there is only a limited amount of storage with both cams writing to the card, so without doing a manual save as stupidity unfolds in front of me, I lose the recording of the event to an over-write... My filter came in yesterday-- will slap it on and see how it looks.

Its expensive for a small filter

I recommend checking your setup once a month just to make sure its recording; those micro SD cards are unpredictable

It's been in the camera 2 years now but what you have to remember is I'm in the UK so temperatures are not a problem.

I just installed a second Viofo 119v3 and wow its sharper than V2. That increased resolution adds enough pixels to freeze frame the video get license plates from quite a distance. Way better than Aukey's DR02 $45 dash camera
