Question about system setup

I have the dahua nvr5216-4ks2 and I have an 8 port Poe switch for my cameras.

My main question is do I connect the NVR to the router directly and then the switch to the router directly?

I've tried searching but that question still gets me. I wanna say that's how I do it but not 100% sure.

It's ok to plug the nvr into one of the Poe ports right?

Yes. Providing you have purchased a switch which conforms to 802.3af/at. The switch won't send power unless the device requests it, which the NVR won't.

There are switches out there which can supply 24v passive, Ubiquiti for one. This won't detect if the device requires power and sends it anyway.
