My bottom line question is would it be wise to keep the iVMS-4200 client running while I'm using my Windows 10 PC for other stuff? Or, should iVMS-4200 be the only thing running on the PC?
Background:
I have the iVMS-4200 client on my Windows 7 PC, but rarely use it while logged in. The reason is because iVMS-4200 maxes out my CPU (100%) and eats a large chunk of RAM, thereby dragging my PC to its knees. The same problem occurs on my Windows 7 laptop.
In addition, iVMS-4200 takes too long to startup if I need to quickly see what/who is in view of my cameras. NOTE: My PC is nowhere near my NVR monitor. So, I'm unable to see what's going on when working on my PC at a moments notice without client software.
But ... This May Work:
I have since built a new workstation with Windows 10 and discovered that it has virtual desktops. This led me to think that it would be nice to have the iVMS-4200 client running in one of the virtual desktops while I'm working. It would allow me to quickly switch desktops and instantly look at my cameras .
With my Windows 10 configuration, iVMS-4200 is more efficient ... live view = CPU (5%), RAM (40%); idle = CPU (1%), RAM (35%). My basic Windows 10 configuration is thus:
So, back to my question. Is it wise to keep iVMS-4200 running while doing other stuff on my Windows 10 PC?
