Hi All,

Newbie here. Hope to learn a lot and of course contribute where I can.

I set up BI with a bunch of Cams in my business. Pretty simple and straigh forward. I was able to view it remotely but didn't feel comfortable with the port forwarding and exposing my feed to the internet. I removed port forwarding and started from scratch.

I did the following and am wondering if this is secure enough:

First I set Set up OpenVPN on my router

Second, I connect via VPN to my office network

Lastly, I launch the BI app on my phone and can see the live feed (or if I am on my desktop, i go to the 192.x.x.x:81 address

Am I missing anything or am I good to go security wise?

Hello.

Check for UPnP in your router. Cameras use that to forward ports to themselves and then they get hacked. How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) | IP Cam Talk

I assume you're using the same 192.x.x.x:81 address even in your mobile app, right? You should be, if you set up your VPN correctly.

Thanks for the input.
I disable UPnP on my router, thank you for that.

I am using the same ip and port on the mobile app.

So other than that, I think I am good to go. I don't mind loggin in to OpenVPN and then opening up BI on my mobile. It's just explaining that extra step to my biz partner which is the hassle.
