looks like a quad-bayer (2x2 binned) version of the imx485. same size sensor, but 2mp vs 8mp and each pixel is a whopping 5.9um (vs 2.9)

a few offerings of the imx485 on aliexpress in industrial format, but no cctv-type ip cams (yet...)

Is the IMX485 what is in the new hikvision DS-2CD2087G2-LU

this 2x2 binned version of it would probably be the best color night sensor (albeit 2mp).

You guys are way over my head, but could this have anything to do with seeing 1/1.8" sensors in 2MP cams offerings from Dahua recently?

oh? point me at one, please... yes, same concept, bigger pixels for better low-light imaging...

Yep, I get that bigger pixels allows more light in and given the same size sensor, less pixels should let more light in vs squishing a bunch more tinier pixels into the same space.

They have some 2MP PTZ's 2MP now with the 1/1.8 and a number of new models in the 2MP 5 series. I'm desperately wanting to get one to test against the 4MP 5442 series

These two have my eye

IPC-HFW5242T-ASE-MF

For all you turret fans, though I dont understand why the F1.8 Fstop..?

odd, the specs on the 5242's don't even seem to meet the 4mp 5442 series. must be a different (cheaper?) 1/1.8" sensor, or somethign else isn't adding up...

yeah, they may well be using the same 4MP chip, just dumbing down the output resolution to meet marketing 'needs' for a lower price point... i'd pay more for a 2MP with better specs, but might as well stick with 4MP on this one...
