Hello. I need ideas for my first system. Should I buy components to design my own system or buy a bundle at Costco/BJs/SAM's Club.
I'd like IP cameras POE, (I like the idea of one wire). I can run my own CAT5E.
I like the idea of recording video on a NVR or a NAS.
The furthest camera from the NVR would be no more than 100 feet.
Any ideas?
Hello. What is best for you depends on how good you are with computers and computer networking, and how much you care about optimizing your camera types and lenses for different locations. Most bundles are designed to include most everything you need, and be as close to plug-and-play as possible. But they also tend to include a bunch of the same cameras, so you can't pick and choose different lenses or different cameras for different locations. For example, it is common for a front door camera to have a microphone and a wide 2.8mm lens, while a driveway camera might be better with a 6+ mm lens (more zoomed in) and might not need a microphone. But if you get a bundle, you will probably not have a choice.
