Had a lightning strike at our condo complex a few days ago and among the many things that were cooked were 2x IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 cameras. They'd been working great for 8 years.

I'll be pulling them apart in the next few weeks to see what was cooked.

Not sure if I'll be replacing them anytime soon, with the economy going the way it is.

Those bullet cameras are more susceptible to lightening strikes - I know several Z12 owners with the same experience. Haven't had an issue with the newer Z12's yet though.

Lighjtening arrestors well worth the money.
Without knowing the cost of the lightning arrestor I'd want to gather more information.
What's the cost of the arrestor compared to the cost of the damage it might prevent, and the probability of it ever preventing any damage? Added to that the increased probability of random failure in the additional connectors. If somebody has 20 cameras, the added cost and labor starts to add up.
