Has anyone tried out this 4K camera? It looks like the real deal for a reasonable price below $1000.

What a ripoff. $900 for 8MP on a 1/2.8" sensor will be blind at night. That sensor is great for 2MP but horrible for 8MP. It would be useless at night at any distance.

One would be much better off with the $400 2MP 49225 or the $440 4MP 49425.

I would take my 2MP 49225 at over half the cost of this 8MP camera at night all night long.

If I were going to spend that kind of money, I would go with the 4MP on the 1/1.8" sensor 5A425XA

Almost anything could look good at the daytime. I would still favor one of the cameras I mentioned over this. That is simply not an ideal MP/sensor ratio. 8MP should be on 1/1.2" sensor.

This camera would need over 4 times the light of the 2MP on the same size sensor.

I have a 2MP PTZ on the 1/2.8" sensor and a 4MP PTZ on the same 1/2.8" sensor and I will take the 2MP day or night over the 4MP on the same sensor. I could just imagine how much harder it would have to work for 8MP.

In most instances, you want to get a camera that will perform at your location for the worse situation, which for most of us is at night when it is dark and there is little to no light. If a camera performs at night, it is easier to tweak settings to make it work during the day than it is the other way around.

I just sent a message to Andy because I think I remember him saying something about new 4K PTZ cameras are coming from Dahua.

We talk a lot here about the proper MP/sensor ratio for cameras, but that is even more critical for a PTZ where at night it will be subject to a wide array of different light conditions as it pans, tilts and zooms. Plus the further away you look, the larger the Fstop gets, which then needs even more light.

So would this see wildlife a lot better than the 49425? Here is a sample of a pond nextdoor.

Yes, the 5A425XA would produce a better image than the 49425 as the 49425 is on the 1/2.8" sensor.

The 2MP 49225 and 4MP 49425 are both on the same 1/2.8" sensor. I have both cameras. The 2MP 49225 wins hands down.

We cannot stress enough the importance of proper MP/sensor ratio - it makes all the difference.

Awesome! It is next on my list unless an affordable 1/1.2" sensor hits the market first LOL.
