That article is an excellent example on why people need to lockdown all devices that could potentially connect to the internet. If your cameras have direct access to the internet then it's just a matter of when, not if.

There are numerous threads on this site explaining the importance of securing your network and preventing cameras from having direct access to the outside world. It's really not that difficult of a task if you have some basic networking knowledge.
