I’ve been a silent reader for a number of years and have often searched the forum for solutions with positive results. I’m hopeful the knowledgeable folks here may have some insights in the setup of my new HikVision PTZ DS-2DE7A425IW-AEB, Firmware Version V5.8.0 build 230519. I use a HikVision NVR.

I have Event, Motion Detection “enabled” in Configuration Mode, Normal Mode, with Sensitivity 40. I have the red boxes in the relevant areas (mostly asphalt road and grass) to capture vehicles and people.

Under VCA, Smart Event, Advanced Configuration, I have Tuning Mode enabled, with the default parameters active.

Under VCA, Smart Event, I have Intrusion Detection enabled, with 4 Rules, each relating to a different PTZ preset, with about the same min, max, and detection areas, with detection targets Human, Vehicle, and Others checked, a threshold of 1 and sensitivity of 25.

Under VCA, Smart Event, I have Line Crossing detection A<->B setup with similar sensitivity, min, max, etc.

The same is true of Region Entrance Detection and Region Exiting Detection.

I have noticed if I do not have the detection target “others” checked, people on bicycles and ebikes are not captured.

I have noticed if I do not have Event, Motion Detection “enabled” in Configuration Mode with the familiar red boxes, nothing is recorded, despite having all of the Smart Events “active” for a 24 hour time period. I tried reducing the red box area to one single red box, and still nothing gets recorded.

I have noticed the Smart Tracking feature often stops tracking and recording pedestrians who are walking, though not all, and am struggling to discern the reason why. Similarly, the Smart Tracking will record and track some vehicles, but not all. At first, I believed this related to speed (a residential 25mph zone, some go slow and some fly by), though the issue seems to occur with both slow vehicles and fast ones. To be clear, all vehicles are recorded, just not all are tracked.

I’m struggling to eliminate the recording of shadows, which I had hoped the Smart Events might have remedied as the PTZ is located in an area with mixed sun and trees, casting many shadows throughout the day.

I had setup a PTZ patrol, with 3 presets so as to cover the perimeter of my property in scheduled PTZ movement. The above rules corresponded to the presets. However, when I tested things out, no movement of vehicles or pedestrians were recorded. I subsequently reverted to no PTZ patrolling.

YouTube has been a blessing in the initial setup of the PTZ, though it seems nobody has the same GUI for their HikVision cameras or HikVisionNVRs.

Apologies for the lengthy post. Thank you for taking the time to read and your counsel.

I have a similar problem with a similar camera (DS-2DE7A432IW-AEB). I am trying to use smart event tracking Line Crossing event. I find that the camera will initally track and then zoom on the vehicle in the frame but it quickly loses the focus on the object and un zooms so the object is no longer tracked.

I tried using simple motion detection but that is way too unreliable,

We have the same FW nad it looks like they have stripped out the smart tracking option and have let the smart events. I have tried intrusion detection and have had the same results.

I am unsure on how to set the zoom and focus properly to stay on the detected object and there is little to no help with this challenge for cameras the the latest FW V5.8.0 build 231109.

Any help would be appreciated.

I hope you received inforamtion to solve your problem and could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

I have had no luck with the line crossing detection. In fact, I’ve not checked the box to enable that feature.

I had hoped to use the line crossing event to trigger the flashing of the cameras lights and a custom message when a vehicle crossed a line onto property when signage was ignored. Alas, no such luck. HikVision technical support did not reply to my request for assistance on this issue.

Specifically, I cannot recall what I did to resolve the issues I was having. I do recall that @bestsecuritydevices on YouTube had a video or two which was helpful. Be careful on browser selection; use Microsoft Edge and install the plugin. I had more "buttons" to select from when accessing the camera GUI from a web browser vs. direct access at the HikVision NVR.

As to the SmartTracking, HikVision Technical Support provided the following for me:

To enable the smart tracking function, you will need to set up a smart event (line crossing, intrusion detection, etc).

To do it from the web interface of your camera, please follow the steps below:

1. Log into your camera

2. From VCA, enable the desired VCA resource, then click “Next”. In this case "Smart Event"

2. From the Set Application page, select “Smart Event”

3. Enable and configure the desired smart event (as an example, we are using Intrusion Detection)

a) Enable Intrusion Detection in the smart event menu.

b) Draw the area and set the sensitivity and threshold as needed.

c) By setting Detection Target you can select human, vehicle, and others.

4. Check the arming schedule, you can modify it to fit your needs:

(This is to set when is the event going to happen)

Once you have set the event and the schedule, you are now ready to set the smart tracking:

Under Arming Schedule, you will see “Tracking Linkage”. By enabling this option, you will be enabling the smart tracking on your PTZ. Then save the changes.

*Note: In VCA – Smart Event - Advanced Configuration, you can set up the tracking parameters

Keep in mind this is a general setting page, some settings may differ based on model.

I hope you've found something in my answer of help.

Hello @mscrocchi and @Costello

I have a DS-2DE4A425IWG-E that I think runs the same firmware as your cameras... could you guys confirm what the "Firmware Version Property" is for your cameras on the system settings page:

I just got the camera, and I have very similar results to both of you regarding events/smart tracking...

What version of firmware are you running? ... I see for the DS-2DE7A432IW-AEB there has been a recent new release of firmware:

Confirming on my end the Smart Event, intrusion detection is working and tracking most objects within set parameters. Current firmware installed is V5.8.0 build 230519. HikVision Technical did not recommend I upgrade or change the firmware.

Hi JohnFitz, I have the Firmware_V5.8.0_231109 firmware. When i goto the hikvision site it only displays the 231109 firmware. What is the url you used to get to the page with the updated firmware. Hikvision has so many sites.

So far, I find that using a PTZ patrol scheduled like this works best:

If I use "spotter cameras" and the NVR to send the PTZ to a preset like this:

Screenshot 2025-01-03 183923.png

then there is a 5 second delay before the event activates on the camera. When the scheduled patrol sends the camera to a preset, the event is active immediately.

I didn't figure this out on my own... I read it in a post somewhere but can't find the post again.

As I said, I just got this camera... these settings seem to be working best so far:

I assume zooming control by tilt angle helps if the camera is mounted higher? My camera is mounted on a soffit about 12' high... my presets are at tilt 15 degrees... I expected the "by target frame" setting to perform better but it doesn't? I maxed the wait times assuming it makes it more likely the camera will continue to track once it starts... How do you have these set?

Hi all, I was on wtih Hikvision support with regards to the newer FW you shoed and after a coule of hours it was confirmed tht I caould load the newer firm ware. I have the US version of the camera so it was ok to update.

I have successfully loaded the new firmware and are back to testing the smart events.

The tech i was on with kept looking for the old Smart Tracking button and was surprised when I showed him that it was not in the interface anymore and you had to just setup smart events the go to the advanced options page to further set the smart event parameters.

He was surprised at this but also said he has to support hundreds of different camera browser interfaces that are constantly changing.

From what I can initially see it seems to pick up the smart line crossing event a little better.

Will send some screen shots over later tonight, it is not perfect but smart events are working better, my challenge is the area the camera is covering has some trees and large shrubs so I am tweaking constantly to see what works in the day and then also at night.

Thanks... I see you are using low values for these:

Screenshot 2025-01-09 085057.png

I have these on max... I assumed the higher they are the more likely the camera will continue to track. I'll try lower values like yours and see...

This setting for intrusion detection seems to be new... any idea what it does?

No idea, and the tech i was on with was not sure either. I keep tweaking the settings looking for better results. Sometimes I find when I make a change to one parameter it affects others or does nothing. I then restart the camera and the new values are then in effect. Not a perfect science.

I tried higher values and found that if a second smart event was triggered, it was ignored as the “timeout” from the first event overlapped with the second and the second event is ignored.
