Did you log into the cam's webGUI and select using ONLY the external mic?

The mic works but it is the humming or buzzing noise that makes it not clear. It is clear when I have it set up at 1’ away from the camera

I’ve heard that one end needs to be grounded to the earth and the other open. But I don’t know

Camera specs say it has a 12VDC output capable of supplying 100mA of current, the mic specs say it draws 25mA.
In your post #15 you said "The mic has its own power supply not from the camera if that helps."

Try using the cam's 12VDC output instead of your external power supply.
