Hi all,

Glad to be here. I have a new home and looking in to IP cam security.

I was initially looking for a dome camera, but I'm reading that a dome camera isn't really good for outside due to IR bouncing and rain drops. People recommend a turret camera instead.

But from what I've read, a turret camera isn't really vandal proof like a dome. My camera's will be in reach of a avarage adult person, so I really want it to be vandal proof.

Are dome camera's really that bad for outside?

Welcome Supermew,

The "older" style Dahua turrets ( aka mickey mouse ) are fairly solid and thus good imho for even cases you worry about vandals. ( example IPC-HDW5231R-Z )
The newer style ePoE versions have a larger 1 piece glass which I have not yet seen in person, so I do not know how strong it is.
