Hi all AP514 here in Texas....

I joined up looking for info and advice on setting up and the buying of parts for a Security Camera System..
I would like some guidance on and where to do some research on what I would like to get done.
See below

Things I want to do....
1) use an older computer for operation/storage of the system.
Processor Ivy- i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory 16 Gig
Storage 4TB HD..or more open to suggestions

2) thinking of using POE(cat 5e) to power and run cameras
3) 5-8 cameras..good range and clarity 1080p w/ at least 30 Fps.

Any direction and homework you can point me towards is appreciated..

Thanks in Advance

From just south of Houston. Welcome to the forum.

I would install an 120 gb SSD for the os and blue Iris on the PC. Do a clean install of the windows I recommend Dahua 2 mp starlight camears.

As looney2ns said. No more than 15 fps.

Please read, study, plan before spending money.

Welcome @AP514

If you want to jump right in and start to play with a camera ( best way to learn ) I concur with Looney2ns, the following model is a good one to keep and play with to start understanding what is possible:
Review-Dahua IPC-HDW2231RP-ZS Starlight Camera-Varifocal
